If Earth is ever invaded and the enemy invaders are using TIE's I feel that using Gini "SP" missles * air to air low yield nuke at about 3 kilotons * would be able to take down a TIE... or if all else fails lure a bunch of enemy fighters into one area and set off a 20 megaton nuke or two. No need to worry about the enviornment cause if we are being invaded by highly advanced whoevers using TIE's were probly gonna lose anyways.

My point exactly--being able to sustain atmospheric reentry doesn't mean squat against a weapons blast, so that's no reason to think that a sidewinder can't toast a TIE--not to say it's definitely going to toast a TIE of course, there's just no evidence either way.

You forgot the teensy weensy matter of the TIE Fighter models in A New Hope withstanding several blasts from the Falcon's quad guns.
