Well, the first 4 letters of "Bendu" part might refer to Saint BENeDictUs. And "Ashla" is a direct reference to Aslan from Chronicles Of Narnia.

However, I don't know what Bogan means... however, if you swap the wovels and switch the B for a D, you get the name of a Philistine deity whose clerics opposed the ancient Hebrews. (and later was identified with some really scary stuff by a certain H.P. Lovecraft)

Still, that Bogan=Dagon thing is probably coincidence.
Dagon was a real mythological figure, but it was the god of the field and I guess the harvest for the Babylonians, I don't know if they were related to the philistines, but I don't think Bogan was used by Lovecraft.
The word "Bogan" is never used by Lovecraft - however, his story "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" implies a connection between Dagon and Cthulhu.

As for the origin of the word "Bogan", it might be derived from "boskan." (the villains in "Lensman" IIRC)

I hate Storm Rucker as much as the next guy, but I don't see what any of this has to do with the topic at hand.

SHeppard, I have no problem with you doing that, but it does kinda get in the way of other topics... Maybe we should start a spamalicious "flame the Chewtoy" thread?

Nope, then Chookie would just ignore that thread - we have to fight them
on the beaches, in the forests, in the cities, in SLAM, in PSW, etc etc

Did they really do that, or was that made up by "The Temple of Doom"?

^Sorry about that, its been a crazy day. Ask a mod to clean it up.

As for the thugee cults, they are real. I draw parallels to the Sith because they are very insular and very secretive, with almost no one outside of the cult knowing who the members are. They would secretly attract power and influence.

They were violent, with a tradition of assasination and mercenary fighting, and they also had a master-apprentice relationship.

A perfect opposite to the zen-buddhist Jedi, doncha think?

What are the similarities?? I don't know much about the Thugee cults, but IIRC they were a religious sect of highwaymen who strangled their victims in the name of Kali, the goddess of death.
The Thugs actualy often killed for money. And Kali is the goddess of power not death.

Well, considering that she nearly killed hubby Shiva, I suppose that death would come to mind!

Actually, Ashlan is Arabic for "Lion", hence Alp Ashlan.

This also explain why Aslan takes the form of a lion in "Chronicles of Narnia."

BTW, I've found out where "Bendu" comes from - it comes from "Bindu", something which should be familiar to anyone who had read Dune.
