An encounter I've had today.

Post by fgalkin »

I though I've seen it all. Fundies, Jeovah's Witnesses, the whole nine yards. But today I was approached by MORMONS. (in New York). Basically, as I was walking, two "missionaries" came along and tried to convert me, by trying to make me read The Book of Mormon.

It was hilarious. They tried to use the standard recruiting algorithm on me (talk about God, miracles, etc., then start reading the Book of Mormon, until the potential convert decides to take "the three steps": reading, "meditating on it", and "praying", and then (this is coming from them directly) the Holy Ghost will enlighten him).

Then, they began telling the story of how this prophet guy sailed to America in 600 B.C., simultaneously showing me the picutres. Here, the fun began. As soon as they said, I asked them whether they had any archeological eividence that supports it. Their reaction was priiceless. She stoped in mid-sentence, looking at me wide-eyed, and asked "evidence?". :D

For the next five minutes, she and the other missionary stood loking at each other, blinking in amazement. I'm beginning to suspect they have some sort of blinking code, because it seemed a lot like communicating.

After that, it was easy. Once their algorithm was disrupted, the missionaries turned into what they really were, brainwashed zombies. In the end, they didn't even try to offer me their book, although I could take it as a trophy, like I usually do in such cases. In the end, I took their card as a souvenir.

This once again proves my theory that all recruiters are a bunch of zombies, and once you break out of the algorithm, they are screwed. In fact, as I've discovered before, its useless to debate them, since they don't know jack shit, and the only argument they use is "God tells us so in the Bible". :D So, I mess up their recruiting sessions and watch their reactions instead. It's just as much fun as debating them, trust me.

Btw, going over the whole thing, I've noticed something that impressed me. They managed to identify me as being straight out of HS (the best recruitment peroiod). Wow, that's what I call skills. I'd love to know how they did that.

Have a very nice day.

The zombies are everywhere!!

Kind of funny that you fouled them up! I'll have to remember it...

That and the fact that they were trying to recruit you should tell you something...

Heh. Interistingly, I heard something about some Egyptian mummies supposedly having cocaine-derived chemicals. This was used as corrobative evidence for the Atlantis-was-in-the-Bolivian-Altiplano (which has a plain that precisely matches that in Plato's description, except for a factor of two), since the story was supposedly brought to Greece from Egypt ca. 600BCE (or so Plato says). Does anyone know of any sources for the supposed cocaine mummies?

Here's a long, if very interesting, article on the subject of the cocaine mummies, and ancient contact in general.

The local mormons used to bother us, however we fixed that one day, my brother and i (both militant agnostics) debated them and pointed out why their arguments were absurd.

Their god made it cold and we went inside.

I'd heard that, too, but I can't remember the source now. Seems like it was a show about early trans-Atlantic travel using reed boats, and the cocaine in Egyptian mummies was supporting evidence. It was on Discovery, IIRC.

That’s just funny. Almost enough to make me want to seek some out just to screw with them. But then I'm not that insane.
