What is Lucas' price?
we all know that GL has said time and time again that he is done after ep. III. But, money has been known thoughout time to ...change minds. What do you think George's price is? I mean, come on, everybody has a price. Just how much cash would it take to squeeze another trilogy out of George? Half a billion? thre quarters? a full billion? after all, the the average take for the 5 films so far is well over half a billion each....and that doesn't even begin to count merchandise and novelizations etc... What do you think?

I think if you could garauntee the old man that he would have atleast one or two times the amount of time he invests into the movies to later spend with his family after he completes the movies before he dies then sure I bet he would be more willing to do so. I think that him being old and getting closer to death makes him want to work less, I don't know where he would get the idea of that(retirement) but hey

He's richer than Steven Spielberg. I don't think there's any amount that could lead him to change his mind if it really is made up.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

granted AOTC was cheezy, but i thoroughly enjoyed Clones. The problem lies in Lucas' directing. Now if he were only to produce 7, 8 and 9 and give the directors chair to someone else, it wouldn't be that hard on him...and the films would be better as well. <sigh>...*wanders off grumbling about how Thrawn needs to have a movie role.

I'd say he's worth about half a billion burritos.
As for another trilogy, he probably wouldn't do one for money, as if he wants to keep in the tradition of having huge gaps between trilogies and start a third one 22 years after the previous one began, then he'd probably be dead by the time they're released, and unable to collect royalties. And besides, he probably has enough money to be satisfied with himself.

Actually, it lies entirely in his writing. He's a GREAT (visual) director. Don't expect anything Hitchcockian out of him, though. The problem lies in Lucas' directing.
Anyway... Lucas has already gone on the record as stating that, after Star Wars, he'll make more movies like THX 1138 (essentially, movies HE likes, and t'hell with everyone else). Unfortunately, that mindset from Lucas produces the likes of Howard The Duck. After he gets three or four box office bombs in a row, I'm betting that he'll go back to the Star Wars universe.
The Great and Malignant
GL is a horrible writer. If the writing was there the prequels would be 100% better (they aren't bad to begin with, though).

Yeah, AOTC has GL making clones some epic twisted weapon that is obviously being portrayed as being sent across the galaxy to fight at the end of AOTC.
Yet there are only 1.2 million individuals, and they're just a SpecOps force at best.
Great ideas GL.

I think a sensible use of this theoretical sum of money we are talking about offering to George Lucas would be to offer it as a budget to hire a top-of-the-line writer and director. Surely a director and writer exist who could make a great set of movies that combine Lucas' idea of Star Wars with their own style. Of course, this would require him to admit his shortcomings and trust his baby in the hands of people who will bring something of themselves to the Star Wars franchise. Lucas is rich enough to make a third trilogy on his own, even though just about any studio would give him the cash to make them if he proposed it. As a result, this sum we would be offering would be for him to recruit at least a writer and director able to work with him and make some great movies. Basically, it would not be a bribe so much as fans helping to make the movie they want to see made, and putting their money where their mouths are.
Now let's just say the fans of Star Wars get a fund up to 500 million bucks to offer to Lucas. Who might we suggest as writer and director for this imagined new trilogy? I'm not sure who I would suggest to write it, but I would suggest that a third Star Wars trilogy be an original story set after Return of the Jedi, but which does not contradict the events of the novels. There's no reason to rehash the novels. If that is not desirable, then set it well before The Phantom Menace, and possibly show the Jedi in their prime. I do think a great choice for director would be Peter Jackson, because he seems pretty good at making movies that follow another's ideas.

Even if he were to go and make another trilogy, what does he make it about? The six we will have depict the rise and fall of anakin. That story is over. I don't think there is anything left to link it well to the first six. And you know as well as I he will not base sequels off EU.
On a side note, is anyone helping with the screenplay this time? He needs it. Of course, to best do III he needs to step down and let someone else direct. The actors just don't respond to him.

I don't think he'll ever make a third Triology. He has said himself that the only reason he ever started with the nine movie idea was because he though it would take that many to tell the story, but after the original triology was made he realized it would only take six.

I've seen brief summaries of what the 9 episodes were originally supposed to be, and Luke wasn't even supposed to meet the Emperor until episode 9. Obviously, Lucas changed his mind and rewrote the plan at some point.

No copyright franchise will ever become public domain while Disney still breathes, and even if Congress stopped granting retroactive 20 year extensions tomorrow, it would still take the better part of a century. Hopefully with the way this cell cloning stuff is going we could all still be alive by then, but that's small consolation.SPOOFE wrote:Can't do it.
