Did anyone here like Amistad?

I personally like the movie alot; I was just wondering what the opinion of others on the board was on the film.
Devolution is quite as natural as evolution, and may be just as pleasing, or even a good deal more pleasing, to God. If the average man is made in God's image, then a man such as Beethoven or Aristotle is plainly superior to God, and so God may be jealous of him, and eager to see his superiority perish with his bodily frame.

I never saw it and I can't recall any reviews or friends opinions.

Aside from some historical nitpicks, I liked it. The first nitpick being the parroting of the stagnant Southern economy myth (through the mouth of Calhoun at a dinner party), while Southerners were reaping enormous profits because of the institution of slavery. The second being the fact that the slave the movie focuses on became a slave trader when he returned to Africa, something that the movie neglected.

This wouldn't happen to have something to do with ABC having aired the film earlier tonight, would it? :P

Nope, had no idea it was being broadcasted today.

I really liked it, and watching the Brits trash the slave fortress made my day. Slavery pisses me off, it seems like one of the truly awful black spots in American history.

Hehe, that's actually my biggest gripe about the flick! Not because of any moral standpoint or anything, but because they have those miniscule 12pdr guns blowing that massive fort away, seemingly with explosive shells! As bad as, or worse than, anything in Pearl Harbor. :x

I saw it tonight, and I thought it was very moving. The best part was when they were walking around the docks, speaking in Mende hoping to find a translator.

I thought it was boring myself. Once saw an A&E channel
documentary on the events that inspired the film. Documentary
was much better.

I haven't seen the movie since it first came out, but I remember enjoying the movie very much.

I thought it was pretty good. Not as good as Gladiator or Tora Tora Tora, but better than The Ten Commandments or Pearl Harbor. Middle of the road in historical dramas.

Saw it in Eighth grade for Civics, I thought it was a great movie. Kinda bad what happened to Cinque's wife in the end, though...

Seconded. Combat in that movie simply sucked.

I thought it was quite moving, especially with John Quincy Adams giving his statement.

I almost sprayed the TV with vomit when they weighted those people down and threw them overboard. Horrifying.

I enjoyed it a great deal.

it was ok, however i dislike the fact that the PC-people left out the fact that the very slaves that were freed went back to Africa and got rich selling slaves.

Details, details. A movie can't be expected to get everything right, can it? :P

Seriously, though, you're right, they should have at least put a little bit of text at the end like an epilogue. They don't even have to change any of the story, just put it out there for the audience to know.

personally i think it deserves far more than an epilogue. These men were portrayed as noble men just seeking freedom for themselves an all slaves, when in truth they were nothing more than self-serving opportunists who were no better than the slave owners they fought against.
