General Veers' rank... changed along the way?

Post by Emperor Palpatine »

Is there a change to General Veers' rank along the way?

I've watched TESB just now, and noticed that in the first scene which Veers appeared, he appeared to have a rank of Lieutenant General (closest to this. I can't remember the number of rank cylinders, although I can remember the no. of rank-squares.), with rank insignia (2 x 5).
He had this rank all the way until Vader commanded him to 'prepare the men.'
I've made it run at slow motion, and after repeated viewings to clarify, I can confirm he was a Lieu-Gen in those scenes.

Then, when he reported to Vader "Comm link has detected a...", he had the rank of a Major General. (2 x 4)

What do you think happened in between? Was he demoted, or simply an error by the production crew?

I just read my guide to characters and it says that he was promoted directly to general after another general was forced to retire by Vader.

According to the short story "Side Trip", written by Stackpole and Zahn, Veers was a Colonel who was in charge of a garrison on Corellia. "Side Trip" is in the book Tales of the Empire.

What I'm talking about takes place after ANH, not before.

No, this was just before TESB. I'm not sure exactly where because I got it out of the New Essential Guide to Characters.

But here, Veers was 'demoted'... from Lieut. General to Major General, from what I can tell.
I don't think the prod. crew could have made such a glaring mistake of suddenly switching his rank insignia halfway through. After all, that particular scene was very short and could have easily been reshot. Overlooked?
The prod. crew gave Veers the same rank of Major General after that scene, both in the scene reporting to Vader, and the time he was in the ATAT.

I think the mistake is in the first scene with Veers, since in the two scenes afterwards (reporting to BVader and ATAT), he had the Maj. general rank.
