http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/127 ... sts20.htmlPresident Bush has declared major combat in Iraq over. Protesters all over the Puget Sound area have packed up signs. But a standoff between Bush supporters and anti-war demonstrators continues in this salty little town, at the busy intersection of Commercial and 12th avenues, the turnoff for tourists headed to the San Juans.

For the record, just because Dubya declares combat over doesn't mean it is. Tell it to the troops getting shot at by RPGs everyday.
That said, it'd be more helpful now to discuss how to fix Iraq- what works, and what doesn't.
As an aside, the astounding ignorance of some Americans is absolutely shocking (I'm referring to the 'remember 9-11' bit in the article now). I'm sorry, but there have been consistent reports all over the world media that reveal that:
A high number of Americans- a third in some cases, are totally out there when it comes to beliefs about Iraq and 9/11
Things like responding to a survey by saying:
a) Weapons of Mass Destruction (in itself, propaganda- all chemical and most biological weapons don't even come close to conventional explosive in terms of killing power and ease of use) were found in Iraq
and/or
b) WMD were used against US/UK forces
c) Iraqis were among those who hijacked the planes on 9/11
d) Saddam Hussien had something to do with 9/11
Considering that there is no evidence of any of that being the case- that's either an astounding propaganda achievement (not hard to fathom considering the mount of times the administration subconciously linked Iraq and 9/11 in the same breath in speeches without coming up with a baseless claim like Saddam attacked the WTC) or:
It's really sad.

I read another article where a US soldier being interviewed in Iraq was discussing how terrible the war had been for him, and then said he stops feeling sorry for the Iraqis because "they hit us on 9/11""Given the intensive news coverage and high levels of public attention," he said, "this level of misinformation suggests some Americans may be avoiding having an experience of cognitive dissonance."
That is, having their beliefs conflict with the facts.
Kull said the poll's data showed the mistaken belief that weapons of mass destruction were found "is substantially greater among those who favored the war."
Pollsters and political analysts see several reasons for the gap between fact and belief: the public's short attention span on foreign news, fragmentary or conflicting media reports that lacked depth or skepticism, and Bush administration efforts to sell a war by oversimplifying the threat.
"Most people get little whiffs and fragments of news, not in any organized way," said Thomas Mann, a scholar at the Brookings Institution, a centrist think tank. "And there have been a lot of conflicting reports on the weapons."
It's really sad.

If Religion and Politics were characters on a soap opera, Religion would be the one that goes insane with jealousy over Politics' intimate relationship with Reality, and secretly murder Politics in the night, skin the corpse, and run around its apartment wearing the skin like a cape shouting "My votes now! Again, I ask...
Does it fucking matter?
Saddam is out and that is good. Who cares why? Leaving him there would have allowed even more deaths to accumulate.

Oh, wait, yeah-- because it was something America did, and we all know that America is the very incarnation of all that is evil in the entire world, throught the whole of human history.
Ancient human sacrifices? America.
Ritual cannibalism? America.
Fall of Rome? America.
Dark Ages? America.
Crusades? America.
Spanish Inquisition? America.
Conquistadores? America.
Smallpox? America.
Imperialism, Slavery, Communism, Fascism, Nazism, Colonialism? All invented by America, of course. It did not exist until America invented it.
The Holocaust? America, of course, especially the Republicans. In fct, Hitler was a cherubic choirboy until Americans took him, pumped him ful of mind-bending drugs and hypnosis as well as ferocious beatings, and set him loose upon the world again.
--meanwhile, we also know that necrophelia, pedophelia, bestiality, drug abuse, sexual diseases, broken homes and spousal abuse, baby killing, whale hunting, seal clubbing, molestation, rape and arson are all the personal inventions of none other than George W. Bush himself-- probabaly following a plan drawn up by the Great Satan Ronald Reagan.
Bill Clinton on the other hand invented food, water, oxygen and love, and has spent his days doing nothing but baking pizza for the world's starving when he wasn't busy walking on water and resurrecting the dead. He shits gold and pees pure, clean water. The only bad thing that could be said about him, in fact, is that he is an American. Well, nobody's perfect.

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!

Bush only said major combat operations where over, and that’s basically true. A large operation now involves 3000 men, bit of a contrast from the 120,000 that where moving during the invasion.
