Episode III - Update: Chewie

Post by Trytostaydead »

From filmforce.ign.com:
Peter Mayhew stirred up even more interest when he told an audience at the Walt Disney Star Wars weekend in Orlando that Chewbacca will rescue and deliver two children (presumably Luke and Leia) to Ben Kenobi in the new film. TheForce.net, which ran this report, is harboring doubts as to whether or not Mayhew knew what he was talking about. Still, it's interesting to speculate, and an acquaintance between the two might conceivably explain how Ben located Chewie and Han at the Mos Eisley Cantina in A New Hope.
Is this a good thing or a bad thing? To me, it just shows lack of creativity and ingenuity at bringing in new characters to advance the story line when out of the possibly trillions of beings in the galaxy, the entire storyline, history and everything revolves around a handful. What are they doing? Inbreeding?!!

This was already talked about warlier. It was assumed that Mayhew was just talking out his ass to rile up fans.

It doesn't make sense to me. Chewie lived on Kashyyyk until he was enslaved, as far as I know.

I hope that doesnt happen - in a universe with billions of people, it just so happens that the same posse of characters from the first 3 mysteriously show up for the others in key roles? Sounds vaguely similar to Enterprise being responsible for the invention or beginning of all federation technology in the world, ever.

Mystic work of the force? My arse, it is... mmmm

I thought I read either here or on TF.N that Mayhew was either taken out of context and talking about something else or just made something up.

Lucas is notorious for spreading misinformation when it comes to the movies this early in production. I'd chalk it up to that.

It's also possible that Mayhew was just repeating rumors he himself has heard, not solid facts. Besides, Lucas could change the story half way through the production.

Although I would be happy to see a foreshadowing of the Emipre in Ep3. Perhaps we will see the enslavement of some of the races of the SW galaxy, such as the Wookies.

If that's the case, then seeing the enslavement of the wookies and Chewie just being there enslaved and not especially singled out nor mentioned by name, would be nice and not too, "having the same four people always involved in saving or destroying the universe."

But's that's what SW is all about, at least the movies anyway. If it weren't, then all those heroic acts by Skywalker etc wouldn't have made any difference whatsoever. If SW weren't about 4 people saving the universe, the scene after the Death Star explosion would have been several thousand SDs showing up and wiping out the Rebels, which i know is debatable in and of itself.

Let's just say I wouldn't put it past Lucas to tie in Chewie with Ep3.

And if he does by having Chewie rip Jar Jar's head off, I will personally write Lucas a thank you letter.

It's one thing having a group of people be tied to major events in the universe. It's quite another to have them magically always happen to be there. Especially if there is no real reason to other than fan service.

And from a story standpoint, that is getting into pretty bloody stupid territory.

This was sent to me today by Lucas Online.
Sly Moore doesn't say much, nor does she have to. She stands at Supreme Chancellor Palpatine's side, her ghostly pallor and piercing eyes alone leaving an unforgettable impression. In contrast to her cold, expressionless alter ego, actress Sandi Finlay is warm and energetic, particularly when talking about her return for Episode III.

"I'm very thrilled," she grins. "I was panicking a bit thinking that she may not be back this film." About 90 minutes of makeup transforms Finlay into Moore, with a set of uncomfortable and vision-reducing contact lenses completing the look. "They're like glass in your eyes," she groans, "but I love dressing up. I think all actors are big kids that just like to dress up. It's a lot of fun."

The makeup and eyes may be Moore, but the shaved head is all Finlay. "I've been bald for about nine years now. I love it. You can be beautiful with hair, but you have to be damn gorgeous without it!" she laughs.

Her return to Star Wars will reunite her with her on-screen boss, the man who runs the galaxy, Chancellor Palpatine. "I'm very much looking forward to working with Ian McDiarmid again," she says. "He's great. He said to me, ‘if you're ever in London come to my theater and stay at my house.' I found the Star Wars family really, really bonding. Even if you're involved with them just a little bit; they're just so cool."

A founding member of this family joining Episode III is Peter Mayhew, the mighty Chewbacca. Finlay has met Mayhew during her convention appearances. "Oh, I love him," she laughs. "When I first met him a couple of years ago, I walked to him in the green room and I just said, 'Can I cuddle with you? I love Chewie! I love Chewbacca!' And we had this great big cuddle, and Angie, Peter's wife, joined in and welcomed me to the Star Wars family. There were just tears everywhere. We went out to dinner, and I hung out with him quite a bit actually. He's a beautiful, beautiful man."

Now having appeared at several conventions, Finlay continues to be amazed by the passion of Star Wars fans, particularly when it comes to her character. "I've had a big response from the fans about Sly Moore, which has been really cool," she says. "I have fans telling me all about Sly Moore and where she's from, and my powers, and they go right into my history. It's pretty wild, actually. I've been in so many different movies, and I've never had this response. This is just outrageous."
More fuel for the rumor mill.

Yeah, and the Backstreet Boys (or was it N*Sync? I can't tell the difference) were supposed to be in Episode II.

Did anyone here actually belive that????

I would like to see them fight Jar-Jar. With his huge luck, he kills three of them, and the last survivor kills him. Breathing heavily, he looks up to see an Acclamator landing on top of him...

It was N*SYNC. I wonder how many death threats it took for Lucas to reverse his decision. Sure, I'd like to see them dead, but just having them in the movie is insulting to the franchise.

That implies that he intended to have them in AOTC in the first place, as opposed to starting a rumor to throw people off from the truth.

Chewie is in the cast credits on SW.com, and remember that Leonardo DiCaprio was a rumoured Anakin for EPII, so much could be lies at this point.
