From the droid army seen in TPM and AoTC, I would first like to say they're incredibly stupid. I mean, not bad programming stupid.. STUPID.
But that aside, I don't understand this.. in a galaxy with technology far far ahead of ours, you'd think they could program their droids to aim better or learn to compensate through fog. I mean, we can teach our computers how to aim, how come they can't program their droids?
In AoTC we see the clone army and droid army going head to head with little to no tactics.. just Napoleonic strength versus strength battle lines. I would think the droids can at least shoot straight!!!

They can shoot straight. It's kind of hard to hit a target that can reflect the bolt right back at you(jedi) or a target that deflects the bolt (gungan shields). They shot right on target but the bolts were either deflected or reflected.

I wasn't talking about comparing the droids against the jedi, I meant against the clone troopers.theheap wrote: They can shoot straight. Against the clone troopers
Hey the droida didnot perfrom that bad.
One the Clone trooper had the element of surprise, air cover and the droid primary target were the Jedi.
Doing the last battle, we saw clone gunship, and armor vehicles being destroyed.
But the intial assault by Clone trooper had put the Trade federation and their allies on the defensive. Most of the Droid army was already store and pack away aboard the Trade federation ships. Those that werenot were deployed against the Jedi in the Arena.

Re: Droid Army Question
On thing to consider is that ECM would be far more effective against Droids then living beings. That's yet another disadvantage of a droid based army, a droid can't use a Mark I eyeball if the ECM is strong enough to disrupt more advanced targetting systems.Trytostaydead wrote:I wasn't talking about comparing the droids against the jedi, I meant against the clone troopers.theheap wrote: They can shoot straight. The clonetroopers had greater firepower, and were arranged in columns behind Jedi who would block incoming bolts. They also had arty and air support; two huge advantages. And the clonetroopers' guns were undoubtedly superior to those of the battledroids (the battledroids are using SMG-sized weapons on a battlefield where the initial range to target is measured in kilometres, while the clonetroopers are using huge, extremely powerful rifles, probably meant for long-range use).
For a time, I considered sparing your wretched little planet Cybertron.

Perhaps the Leaders of the Trade Federation, Techno Union, Banking Guild etc. continue to use centralized computers for controlling the actions of their droid armies, as we saw in TPM. This could limit the autonomy of individual droids and make it extremely difficult to adapt to unplanned attacks, as we saw in AotC.
