I sure do think so. And for those who want to discuss Dune, whether they like it or not, I have set up a discussion board. The banner is crappy, but I'm working on that.

100% agree with you David. Sure, Dune Messiah might not have the best action plot, but if you are patient to read until God Emperor of Dune and The Herectics of Dune you will be rewarded Dune isn't as easy to read than your average KJA book, but definitively worth to be discovered.

Dune Prequels
They are actually quite good , but they lack the slightly mystical edge that the original books , written solely by Frank Herbert, have. Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson(I know , I know but give him a chance with this one) do a good job at setting up the world that exists at the beginning of Dune , plus they provide some important background material on each of the Major players.I've especially enjoyed the sequences with Pardot Kynes(Father of Liet Kynes and grandfather to Chani from the original trilogy) and the developement of the Fremen. The fleshing out of Duke Leto Atraides as a young man is especially well done and explaines alot of his attitudes toward his cousin the Emperor, and his burning, yet controlled, hatred for the Harkonnens. All the players come in at one point or another , Duncan Idaho, Gurney Halleck, Rabban and even a very young Feyed Rautha plus the Guild, the Bene Gesserit and some new players from Ix. The sequences with Baron Harkonnen are eapecially chilling and villanous. I've yet to read "House Corrino" (Waiting for the paperback , Im a broke college student ) But I would reccomend them to any fan of the series , just dont try to compare them to the master work that is Dune.

Chapterhouse: Dune fucked me up. Seriously. I thought things got weird in Heretics of Dune, but goddamn was I ever wrong. Even more fucked up than Card's Xenocide and Children of the Mind.

May the way of the Hero lead to the Triforce.
That would be consistent, from what I remember of the archive at the end of my ancient copy of dune , there is mention that the Harkonnens attmpt to double cross the nascent Corrino Emperor , and a young Lt. in the Corrino fleet with the last name Atradies manages to save the First Padasha Emperors hide and secure his throne , as a reward , the Atradies are elevated to a Noble House of the New Landsraad and given the backwater world of Caladan, thus earning the enminty of the long sunnering*snicker* Harkonnens.
I just love this stuff
