Any EU readers?

Post by --Leia-- »

I have all the novels (excluding kids books) and a few comic tpb. I love the EU and it has made my love of Star Wars thrive immensely.

Which book is your favorite? Mine would have to be the Thrawn Trilogy.

Most people's favorite EU books would come from Zahn's Thrawn books. This is in spite of the blue-skinned, red-eyed "Mary Sue" who happens to feature in them. Really, the best ones of the lot were likely the Hand of Thrawn duology. :D

I'm a big NJO buff. Early ones suck, but from Edge of Victory on they rock.

I didn't care much for the Hand of Thrawn duology. The first book built the story up really good but the second book let me down.

My favorite EU authors are Zahn, Stackpole, and Denning.

Force Heretic III is released on July 1st. I can't wait!

I agree whole heartedly. Vector Prime is really crappy. My interest was really peaked with Conquest and I got hooked after Star By Star.

I still say that guy looks like Ewan McGregor.

July 1st, eh? Sweet. Just in time for my birthday, too.

My favorites are Zahn, Allston, and Stackpole. I like Allston slightly more than Stackpole because his stories are funny.

I agree that Allston has a great comedic style to his writing. The Wraith books are downright hilarious at times.

I like the EU, and I own and have read 70-75 books.

My favorites are the Thrawn Triology, I, Jedi, the X-Wing books, and especially Destiny's Way.

When I'm feeling blue, though, The Courtship of Princess Leia always cheers me up.

That's right, you heard me.

Stay away from Planet of Twilight, though.

Planet of Twilight and that other piece of crap that Barbara Hambly wrote are to avoided like a plague!

The Courtship of Princess Leia is a great book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I especially liked the expansion on the Rancor species.

I'm just starting to get into the comics and find them to be a pretty good substitute between the book releases. I own... Dark Empire II, Mara Jade: The Emperor's Hand, and Union.

Yeah, I enjoy the EU. I realize many here don't, but if you don't read them from a technical view, they can sometimes be good, and keep you interested in Wars until the next movie, and beyond.

Zahn, Stackpole, Allston, not necessarily in that order. (Zahn is usually first, but it depends on my mood for the last two.) I like the detail in the battles with Stackpole, but I couldn't stop laughing through most of "Starfighters of Adumar". That one's still one of my favorites from a comical standpoint.

I always prefered Wraith Squadron to Rogue Squadron.

I've read some of the EU novels and comics, but I've always more prefered reading the EU "non-fiction" than the "fiction" books. That and online resources, which is how I've been able to keep track of what happens in the books I haven't read.

EU non-fiction? Do you mean the Essential Guide to... books and the Star Wars Encyclopedia?

Yes on the EGs, but also the ICSs and Inside the Worlds books.

And to a lesser extent, WEG books and internet sites like SWTC and the Unofficial Encyclopedia.

I see what you mean. I basically buy anything with the Star Wars name on it. Heck, I'd even buy Amidala tampons if they made the things.

Actually, the guy posing as Thrawn is Timothy Zahn himself!! On a series of collectible cards, Michael Stackpole also posed as an older Corran Horn?

Whenever I think of Thrawn, my mind wanders to the cutscene from TIE Fighter where he wants a base opeational within the hour and says it in a horribly strained voice. :D

I have much of the pre-NJO books, arranged in chronological order on my shelf.
