I agree with the 'Standards of Beauty Change' standpoint. Just look at the art of a few hundred years ago.

There are a few differences between modern fashion and the stuff from the 60's, aside from the material. The hair styles in the 60's were radically different, and the sexy thing for women to do was cast off their bras. Bras are much more common today as a means of sex appeal, ever since the advent of the push-up bra (or was that around back then?). Modern fashion takes a lot of stuff from various generations (80's glitziness, 60's skin-showing, 70's hip-huggers) and throw them together with modern materials. Though I think that the 60's are probably the biggest influence on today's fashion.

And don't forget that it wasn't popular for women to bikini wax back then; it's very popular now. :)
