New Zealand Legalizes Prostitution

Thanks to a 60 to 59 vote in parliament prostitution is now legal, even despite a church petition saying "God says it's bad!".

Personally I think this is a very positive step forward, it's one less moral law to worry about and if someone kidnaps and rapes a prostitute they can go to the police without having to duck the "so what were you doing on that corner anyway?" question.

Yay us!

lets hope pimps are required to give full medical and dental coverage and the wo/men are required to have monthly STD checks.

Well if they follow the amdsterdam model, prostitutes will rent space to peddle their wares by themselves, without pimps etc. Pay taxes on their income, and not knowing Enzee social policy, get medical coverage from the gov. They will probably have them check in to keep STDs at a min.
And without pimps the crime level will decrease GREATLY in areas where prostitution is prevalent.

They also have a way to get a very good accountant and way around audits.

I know it's absurd, really, to be turned on by accents. But I can't but find the Kiwi accent adorable in women.

A LAN? Why? The only things that happen at LANs around here is Counter-Strike and pr0n trading, and with legal prostitutes... let's just say I don't want to play CS.

Depends on the issue. Socially we are moraly conservative and liberal on issues of human rights and social welfare. Opinions change quite quickly however, we have a Transgender MP and have a number of openly gay MP's, that would not have happned 25 years ago.

A TV3 poll showed that 75% of people were against it..mind you I dont trust the quality of the poll as it was a phone in poll.
