Favorite Shipname

Post by Stormbringer »

What's your favorite shipname? Sci-fi or real life.

My favorite is GSS Suicidal Insanity from hitchhikers guide to the galaxy.

The other really good one are from the Honor-verse. You can't be those old British names and some cool new ones too:

Aggamemon
Intolerant
Nike
Warlock
Manticore

The Wrath of Achilles from Andromeda.

You just know that ship is going to mess you up and drag your worthless
carcass through several orbits of your home planet.

Enlightenment, but I'm rather biased as I'm the one who named the ship...

My personal favourite is from FS2
Sathanas. Doesn't it just sounds cool?
or
Indefatigable.

Or anything to do with Greek and Roman myth.
Demeter, Agamemnon, Perseus, Hercules, Colossus, Apollo, Zeus...

Indefatigable
Holy shit, how could I have ever forgotten that name. That's probably on of the best serious names ever and I forgot it. Loved that name ever since I saw A&E's Hornblower movies. Kick ass name indeed.

I kind of liked the ship names from the Alien series, becuase you have no idea at first what they mean or where they come from.

Examples:

Nostromo
Narcissus
Sulaco
Auriga
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

OT, how many times did KJA try to use the same stupid pun about "Knight" and "Night?" Seriously, I think he needs to get better material before writing another book.

No, he needs to be shot before he can write another book. He seems to be bent on ruining all classic science fiction. He's produced some of the worst crap ever to come out of the Star Wars EU. And he's working on Dune now too, although I'm told those aren't as bad as his Star Wars novels.

Personally my favourite ship name has to be the Thunderchild from war of the worlds.

My roleplay group called our runabout that in a Prime diractive roleplay game a few years ago. More recently in a Star wars game we piloted a transport ship called at different times the steed hawk, the latanum eagle, the dancing homer, the flaming moe and a few other names I forget now.

Revenge - Probably the most appropriate name for a missile submarine in history. Apart from Vengeance, of course.

Iron Duke - Timeless.

Hood - One of the most potent names in RN history, and thus must be handled with caution in Science Fiction - maybe a bit too obvious? There'll probably never be another Hood in the RN. Terrible shame.

Black Prince - See, they reused this one even though the armoured cruiser of that name was smashed to burning ruins at Jutland - why not another Hood?

Fearless - They'd better bring this one back soon.

Valiant - Yes.

Reprisal - Great name.

Oriskany - Lots of images behind this one.

Coral Sea - And this one.

Ranger - Can't go wrong with a name like this.
