What ill fate does the future hold?

After checking out a certain thread announcing the imminent end of all things Trek, I've come to the foregone conclusion that the poster is a hopeless optimist. Berman and Braga have as of yet shown a steadily worsening ability to direct and lead the Trek franchise, and I have no doubt that they will continue to surpass our most harrowing nightmares for decades to come.

And given that, we can assume the following: when Enterprise has reached its seventh season, and is finally staked and decapitated, there will be a new series in the works, compared to which the horrors of Enterprise will surely be a gentle caress.

All right, maybe I am getting heavy on the flavor text here.

But the question is as follows: when Enterprise is gone, what next? What can we expect of the Unholy Duality? Will it be worse? If so (and it may very well be), what will it be about?

Maybe the supposedly proposed "Starfleet academy"?

It was supposed to be the trials and travels of some cadet through his years and through the rumor mill sounded something like Dawson's Creek meets Star Trek.

but seeing as how most trek series run for seven years would it also follow the cadets through their first years on assignment? or would they remain in the academy for seven years like the students in Saved by the Bell were in high school for ever?

IIRC it wasn't a legit rumour, but something someone here sugessted. Along with ST - Risa, DW's adult ST.

Hopefully, they'll make another series like DS9, where stuff just gets blown up all the time. I'm sorry, but that's what I like in a good sci-fi movie/series: stuff getting blown up. The science is great and all, but I'm tried of watching Patrick Stewart on TNN solving everything by talking it out. I used to watch the liberal trash he spewed when I was younger, now it just makes me sick.

Voyager didn't piss me off because of the pathetic dialog or crummy cliche's. What really made me angry were the very few instances of actual ship combat being shown.

Tuvok: They are charging weapons
::bridge shakes::
Tuvok: We've taken damage. 3 seconds later: Everything is off-line

That's great, I'm shaking in my boots from all the suspense of watching Janeway make contorted faces as her "immensly powerful" ship is disabled every 5 seconds. Wasn't her ship supposed to outclass most ships in the DQ?

Would you have enjoyed watching Starship troopers if all you saw was Rico yelling into a radio: "We're taking casualties. Men are dying. They are dead now?" No, you want to see ships exploding, and a giant beak getting stabbed through his leg.

I think the only reason I quit watching Enterprise was the episode with the Borg. Now I'm not as knowledgable as most people here, but I distinctly remember Picard as being the first Human to encounter a Borg. I wonder if the writers were just smoking crack on that one. It's a shame though, I like Bacula(sp).

Actually, Lilly from First Contact was the first human to enounter a Borg, that we know of. You've got to remember that 200 years pass between Enterprise and TNG. 200 years which saw several interstellar wars and a major change of government for Earth. It's unlikely that every single incident from a mission that occured that long ago would still be in the ship's database by that time, especially when they don't have a name to file it under.

Plus, I'd imagine that the 24th century Federation has probably altered quite a few historical records to fit its agenda. "He who controlls the past controlls the future," and all that.

First Contact was a godawful amalgamation of bullfuckery with the continuity to begin with. I wish they had done something different with the eighth movie.

The future:

The final film. Emphasis on final; it will crash and burn so badly that it will mark the beginning of the final descent into oblivion.

Enterprise is cancelled. Or, a new series (if Enterprise miraculously survives to that magic 7th year... wtf is their predilection with 7 seasons anyway?) starts and fails. Towards the end, B&B will throw elements from every successful TV show they see into Enterprise with little regard for making it fit, making the last moments of Star Trek an undignified flailing about, trying to hang on (unsuccessfully) to life.

The aftermath? B&B go on to write a book, celebrate in their filthy wealth, and go on to other ventures. Braga goes on to write for shitty pornos, and still suck at it, while Berman remains at Paramount as a "veteran producer".

As was I. That Space Marshall behind the assault on Klendathu should have been shot.
