I used to live in Hawaii... I believe that the wealthy plantation owners decided to overthrow the Queen, then requested annexation. As I understood it, the majority of the people at the time didn't want it...

Hehe, Haulani Kay-Trask. She once went picketing carrying a "FUCK BEN" (Cayatano, then-governor) at the Capitol to protest Hawaii's education problem.
