India/Pakistan dick-waving.
I find this amusing.
Indian Defense Minister: "[Pakistan has built] some tanks called Al Khalid in collaboration with China. However, this tank is not superior to the [Arjun] tanks being inducted in the Indian Army."
Pakistandefense.com: "Pakistan already has an edge over India in an armed conflict, but after the addition of Al-Khalid, Pakistan would be invincible in a land war."
I rather like that last one. All it needs is "MUAHAHAHAHA!" at the end. Anyway, I understand the Arjun is essentially a lemon that can't hit the broad side of a barn with it's main gun, but what about this Pakistani tank? Anyone know anything about it? Here's the official gov't "We are INVINCIBLE!" fluff piece:

If Religion and Politics were characters on a soap opera, Religion would be the one that goes insane with jealousy over Politics' intimate relationship with Reality, and secretly murder Politics in the night, skin the corpse, and run around its apartment wearing the skin like a cape shouting "My votes now! PS - Iran reportedly wants to buy some Khalids, so maybe we'll get to blow some up soon.

Arjun is dead, with only 124 vehicles produced and no plans for additional orders.
The Al-Khalid is all right, and much better then most of India's tanks which are mostly early 80's T-72's with 350mm RHA equivalent protection and even older jobs. And India's 300 odd T-90's are largely counter balanced by Pakistan's similar number of T-80U's. However India is beginning preparation to license produce 1000 additional T-90's and its highly unlikely Pakistan and afford that many Al-Khalid's. The T-90's Sniper missiles gives it a big advantage at long range. India's large advantage in all other arms would really hurt Pak tanks in action.

I highly doubt that. Iran has already developed its own 125mm gun armed tank and in general is interested in developing its own capabilities rather then importing equipment or manufacturing copies.PS - Iran reportedly wants to buy some Khalids, so maybe we'll get to blow some up soon

AHAHAHAHA!!! I love these parts.
Al-Khalid is one of the newest and one of the most deadliest [sic] tanks in the world.
It is the only tank that has the ability to auto-track the enemy's tanks. Only French tanks have this capability. I thought Al-Khalid was the only one? And how the fuck does one "auto-track" the enemy?
The Al-Khalid tank's performance is much better than the Russian T-90-S tank, since its designed extreme temperatures. LOL!
The ballistic computation time is less than one second. Wow, I could sell them my calculator for big bucks.
Al-Khalid is far more modern than India's Arjun, which took 25 years to be developed and is still not completed. Pakistan already has an edge over India in an armed conflict, but after the addition of Al-Khalid, Pakistan would be invincible in a land war. Naturally, this one is the creme of the crop, stupid-comment wise.

Automatic target tracking is fielded by more then just France. Basically if you have a thermal target that is sufficiently distinct the fire control computer can follow it automatically. Though the crew must designate it as a target. Its really pretty pointless, since if the target is already distinct on thermal and the gunner already has laid his sight on it you might as well just fire then.

It's not a bad looking machine, really, and seems reasonably competent for the region. What's the Iranian tank called?
Also, will it make Iran INVINCIBLE?

Zulfiqar, and very little is known beyond it uses suspension similar to that of the M60 and has the gun and autoloader of the T-72.GrandAdmiralPrawn wrote:It's not a bad looking machine, really, and seems reasonably competent for the region. What's the Iranian tank called?

Well tritium is a key part of building effective thermonuclear bombs. Though the amounts on watches are measured in millicuries and are not what I'd call a viable source.Alex Moon wrote:

I mock the puny Pakistani tanks.
India's T-90S tanks have the edge over Pakistan's T-80UD force in terms of fire control (they have a superior thermal imager over the basic T-90S model, and only some of Pakistan's T-80UDs even *have* a thermal imager) and they are equal in speed/power-to-weight ratio (India's tanks have a 1,000hp V-92S2 Russian diesel- compared to 840hp V-84 on the standard T-90, while Pakistan's tanks have a 1,000hp Ukranian diesel) as well as armor (I presume- the full standard T-90 weighs more than the export T-90S, though as pointed out India's T-90s are better over the handful of Russian Army T-90s in some ways).
Pakistan was initially supposed to get T-84s (special Ukranian versions of the T-80UD) but in the end they just got Ukranian Army T-80UDs.

If they ever start WWIII, I wish Unholy Thermonuclear Death of Much Burning +1+1+1 (yes, that's a new AD&D spell I just made up. It does 2.0x10^6D20 Fire Damage, 1.2x10^5D20 Blast Damage, and 6.0x10^3D20 Radiation Damage over Time. Area Effect Range: 50 KM)

Only India has even tested a thermonuclear bomb, and their tests fizzled. Actually so did a number of Pakistani and Indian atomic bomb tests. Combine that with the shit for delivery systems and the threat is rather limited.
