What IS "The Force"?

Post by keflex »

I'm curious; I'd posted this question in another thread, but it was moved to a different forum and subsequently sunk under 4 pages of posts.

What is "The Force" and how is the manipulation of it possible by single celled organisms in the bloodstream?

Is "The Force" mystical in nature, or does it have a grounding in physics (aka: one of the fundamental forces of the universe)?

If mystical, how is usage of "The Force" reconciled w/ the necessary presence of midichlorians?

If a fundamental force of physics, how is that reconciled w/ the necessary presence of midichlorians (which allow manipulation of this fundamental force)?

Are there any microbiologists/physicists on board that could puzzle this one out?

If there's reference material that addresses this directly, I would appreciate a link.

Midichlorians are not necessary in any way, note the multi ton inert objects lifted with the force, they simply are an indicator of force potential.

Speaking of The Force, does anyone here know of any editorials or commentaries regarding midicholorians, balance to the Force, or the Force as a whole?

Ok, since that explains the midichlorian relationship (although not really their purpose for being in the force user's bloodstream), what IS "The Force"?

Its an energy field generated by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us, binds the galaxy.

It's like duct tape. It's got a dark side, a light side, and it binds the galaxy togeather.

That's a lie. Duct tape can fix anything. The Force can't.

So "The Force" is mystical in nature and not grounded in physics (SW physics, at least)?

It's pure magic, with no real grounds in physics whatsoever (the midochlorian bit diminishes the Force's appeal and is a sorry attempt to physics-ify it in my opinion).

That's what I think.

There is a book called The Science of Star Wars (or the Physics, I'm not sure). It has a chapter on the Force, and some interesting theories.

But that book is to be taken with a grain of salt. The author thinks that TLs are lasers, because they have the word laser in them.

I don't recall such a book. However, Richard Feynman has written two books on sci-fi realism called "The Physics Of Star Trek" and "Beyond Star Trek." The latter probably addresses the physics of other sci-fi franchises than ST.

I saw it in my library. Black cover, with stars, and two red and blue lightsabre blades crossed.
