Your constant rape of the German language slowly makes me worry. Next time if you want something in German, simply ask me, and I'll give you the correct spelling.

By the way, it is spelled "Deutsch" and not "Deutch".

Come, now. People here are pretty tolerant towards bad english from us foreign folk. Do them the same courtesy where german is concerned.
No need to go on a rant, simply correcting the mistake would have sufficed.

The black, red and gold flag has a better history, though, and is just generally a friendlier looking flag.

The history of the black, red and gold goes back to the Wartburgfest in 1817, and was conceptually fixed in that order by the Harnbacher Fest in 1832. It was then set as the standard cockade color of German troops in 1848 at the Bundestag in Frankfurt.

The black-white-red tricolor was derived from the combinations of the black and white of Prussia and the white and red of the Hanseatic League, became associated with the German Reich during the war of 1870-71. These colors were made the national colors in 1892.

The Weimar Republic took the black-red-gold as the colors of the republic, but the forces against the republic managed to squeeze in the black-white-red as the German flag for trading ships, albeit with a small field in the upper corner containing the black-red-gold.

The Nazis then used the black-white-red from '33-35 and then reduced the colors to just being the colors of the realm for cockades, guard shacks, etc. and made the swastika flag the national flag.

The Federal Republic of Germany then re-adopted the black-red-gold, and eventually the German Democratic Republic adopted its own version with communist embellishments.

Black-red-gold is even conceptually embedded in contemporary German political thought. Political leanings and parties are associated with colors. The Social Democrats specifically, and left-leaning parties in general, are associated with red. The Free Democratic Party, and liberal (European liberal, as in pro-business, especially small business) parties in general, are asociated with yellow, or gold. The Christian Democratic Union and Bavaria's Christian Social Unioin, and right-leaning parties in general, are associated with black. (The Bavarian CSU is also associated with blue and white.)

Fascists, based on the old SA uniform colors, are associated with the color brown. Minor fascist and ultra-right parties usually use some variation on the black-white-red color scheme, usually with a black and white device in the center, as do neofascist parties around the world.

The Green party (Buendnis 90 / Die Gruenen) is, naturally, associated with the color green.

The little black-red-gold flag can also be found around the world courtesy of the ubiquitous Bundeswehr parka.

The Red White Black imperial german flag was so much cooler. Those three colors, in the proper proportions (black > white > red) are so kick ass.

I prefer the WWI era Imperial Naval Ensign above all of them. The Eagle and Iron Cross just look so cool.

Hey, I just finished my second year of German(vice president of the German Club as well) I am no where near fluent...but good enough not to rape the language.

Ok, let's not be the bad guy, concerning language. My English isn't perfect either, so tolerance in such matters is better. But be aware! Every time, you write German, I will pick it apart to look for faulted grammar.

Concerning the flag issue:
The whloe flag thing is a really complicated issue in Germany. A year ago, a whole debate about national pride enflamed only because some geeks thought, that it would be horrific to be proud to be a German. The whole issue swapped over to if a politican got a flag in his office or not.
The whole national pride issue is really idotic. Should we hate ourself only because of something in the now more distant past? The Americans, English or French haven't any problem with national idendity and pride for themselves. So why not we too?

For two languages so similar to each other, they're awfully hard to pronounce. Give me Espanol (So I forget the accent. Sue me.) anyday. Even Italiano is easier to pronounce and spell!

All I have to say is that I was rather annoyed that they tried to ban Chick Corea (kickass jazz pianist who's done ALOT) from playing because he was scientologist, IN SPITE of the fact that he never talked about it much in public unless asked and as far as I know never in concert.

Yeah, they made a big stink over it, and were just told to shove it. Finland has the same approach to Scientology as Germany, and they've been given short shrift in courts here too.

So? The accent comes from the sounds expressed in N~ and Ll. So I got it backwards. Sorry.

It's not an accent, it's a tilde
to make ñ use alt + 0241 on numpad

Yep it was back in 95, I caught new flash about on Entertanmet Tonight when I was flipping though the chanles looking for something good to watch.
