I've seen the 5 doctors, pretty good Who.
The eps are what makes the series.

I personlly am a big fan of the Darlek stories. I recently watched The Darlek weekend on UKgold and was very impressed.
So i would recomend Dralek stories. Although the ones with the first doctor were very poor quality, it helps to build up the Darlek myth.

Other than that i quite liked "the 5 doctors" where all the doctors before the current one at the time united.

On the subject of the 1995(???) TV movie although it wasnt greate i dont think it went too much Agaisnt the Myth of doctor who. In that sence it is better than the 1960s Darlek film which had the Doctor s a human scientist with gandchildren. Completly against the Doctor who mythology

As for the plot of the TV movie I dont know if anyone already knew but the "eye of harmony" that is the key plot drive of the story is actually referd to in several doctor who episodes. including the 5 doctors.

Which is the King Arthur Plot where he leaves a message for himself. I loved that idea, the future version of the Doctor leaves a message in the past for the old him to pick up sometime in the future. how confusing it must be to be a timelord.

(I also always felt sorry for the Brigader, every time he met the Doctor he'd changed, I always imagined one version of the Doctor showing up, then another version then the old version again...)

Tom Baker is best. It also has the best variation of the classic Doctor Who theme.

How long did the Tom Baker seasons go for? Are they, at least, out on DVD?

They've been able to climb stairs for a long time, only the show didn't have the budget.

In genesis they made their way though a mountain range...

It took them a while to figure out how to walk on nonmetallic floors or ground.
Their hovertech had to progress to the point where by the planet's magnetic force was enough to support their movement not just highly magnetically active material.

Not really. Their non visible drive systems work just fine in space.

They were only limited to their city in one episode (The Daleks, 1963) partly because they had no reason to leave the city. In their next appearance (Dalek invasion of earth) they have microwave power transmission, and after that their power systems are internal (with EM absorbtion slats, commonly reffered to as solar panels, but actually much more sophisticated {Dalek survival guide})

Indeed he did, Genesis and (ugh) Destiny of the daleks (where K9 was not operational, but did appear) and for the Cybermen, Revenge of the Cybermen.

I watched my first Dr. Who story arch - The Ark in Space

The special effects were laughable, worse than TOS, but like TOS you could care less once the story gets going because it seems Dr. Who got it right just like TOS, people are willing to overlook just about any shitty effect if the story and characters are compelling enough. Tom Baker was Dr. Who, the Dr. Who that I vaugely recall from the few episodes I watched as a child. He was GREAT. Love the scarf and he always seems to be a step ahead of everyone else.

The DVD had some interesting features, you could substitite some of the laugh out loud bad effects of the space station with new CGI models done for the DVD. It has some interviews with Baker and the producer. It also has a text commentary during the episodes.

Needless to say I just logged on to Netflix and have added every single Dr. Who DVD they have to my list. I am a fan of the show so far (maybe just of Tom Baker but we'll see)

Indeed. The (new) Dalek Invasion of Earth DVD has that feature as well, it seems to be the intended standard, and hopefully we'll be getting decend CGI if and when (prepares to march with pitchfork and flaming torch on the BBC again) they do another series.

Aw, the bad FX and general cheapness of the BBC is part of Doctor Who. Like the invisible spaceship in Shada (not enough money in the episode's budget), or how half of the alien planets all seem to be the same gravel quarry. It's classic!
