Fox Hunting...
MPs back bill banning fox hunting
Of course, it still has to go through the Lords, and guess what your average Lord does for fun?
I know there are a lot of hunters on this board, but my question is - what do you guys think of hunting with dogs - you know the score:- block up all the fox's dens then chase it down with a pack of dogs who then rip it apart. Do those of you who hunt with guns approve of this practice as well?
And (although it's not in this article) - do young female protestors who strip off actually succeed in getting people to 'pay attention to the issues' or just gather a bunch of spectators who like staring and upper class totty?

I doubt I'd do it if given the chance, those foxes do tend to suffer quite a bit once caught. But if other find it enjoyable then go ahead. The UK doesn’t have a shortage of them last time I checked. In addition it appears to be pretty important economically to some areas, given how many hundreds of thousands turn out to protest against the proposed ban.

Ahhh... finally. Although we'll probably get the countryside alliance protesting and all that...

Re: Fox Hunting...
What purpose does killing the fox serve? It's not like people eat them, and there are better ways to get pelts (not that their really needed, anyway).innerbrat wrote:I know there are a lot of hunters on this board, but my question is - what do you guys think of hunting with dogs - you know the score:- block up all the fox's dens then chase it down with a pack of dogs who then rip it apart. Surely there's a better excuse to gallop around the countryside on horseback (which is what fox hunters are really interested in doing, AFAIK).

I'm strongly anti. Not particularly because of the cruelty, although it undoubtedly is, but because of the class thing. I object to an elitist group of people inflicting pain, suffering and death on an animal, merely to establish their supposed social superiority to the rest of us. There's surely something disturbingly wrong with someone who needs to shore-up their self-esteem this way. Same goes for grouse-shooting, pheasant-shooting, anything where if I tried to join up it'd be "oh no, you can't play the killing-this-animal game with us, you don't speak the right way and you don't have the right parents" BTW I have something of a rural upbringing, I've seen the results of fox vs chickens, and I'll admit I've killed stuff myself, pretty much just for pleasure.
I hate it, for the elitism as stated above, the pointless cruelty, and the lazy ass farmers.
Their main argument is it's a fun way to control a pest. However, if the farmers properly protected their farms, the fox population should go down naturally.
Damn farmers.

yup. I should probably be more sensitive to other people.
Truthfully, I have no problem with hunting unless it is done in a cruel fashion. Deer hunters sometimes cross the line, fox hunters leap wildly over the line yelling JOLLY HO!!! at the top of there lungs.
So yes. i find it an unterly senceless and despicable hobbie.

Fox hunting is needlessly cruel; it is not a one-shot one-kill sort of thing and I have never heard of people eating the fox after they've offed it.
Also, I hate the elitism of the thing.
BTW, how does the House of Lords work? If you're a lord, are you automatically in? Do you have to be voted in? Can they veto the House of Commons(and vice-versa?)

It is. Now its also been adapted by many air forces to mean "target visually sighted" which is basically want it means in Fox hunting as well.Montcalm wrote: I thought it was TALLY HO.

Do you approve of fishing with a hook by chance?ArmorPierce wrote:I'm not against quick 1 shot kill hunting but having a fox torn apart is needlessy cruel.
After all you could just drop some explosive in and stun and kill them instantly, while with a hook you have the thing fighting for its life for a prolonged period while the hook tears into its mouth. Then its plop into the boat for slow death via suffocation.

It's better than dumping explosives you wreak the environment I said needless for a reason, some things are necessary. Also it's just a fish. I wouldn't care if you caught a spider and started ripping its legs one by one and a fish isn't much more in the land of intelligence than a spider.

AP, somewhere aroudn here ther''s a thread I started about a study that appeared to show that fish do fell pain.ArmorPierce wrote:It's better than dumping explosives you wreak the environment I said needless for a reason, some things are necessary. And I object to your endothermism - fish are higly complex and varied vertebrates.
Ted C - once an animal has been ripped to shreds by a pack of dogs, ther'e not much pelt to be used.

Fox are vermin, and there is nothing wrong with disposing of vermin. I'm still extremely uncomfortable with the needless cruelty, though.
