All out coolest is the Minbari Nial or the Mara from FS2.

Best technical based design is the A-Wing.

That death boat? One hit and you're slagged.

The best technical design is probably the X-Wing. It gets good marks for every category and maintains a relatively low cost. Jack of all trades.

The best looking is/coolest is definitely the TIE Defender. Very fast, very maneuverable, heavily armed. Meow.

I always thought that the Gunstar from The Last Strafighter was really cool, it was like a flying fortress and it just had a look that most sci fi fighters don't have.

Otherwise I go with the X Wing

So do I. Although I like the Aurora the most.

I also kind of like the Cylon Raiders. As a kid I always thought it was cool
how they rolled over as they went into the atmosphere. :)

I liked the imperial Tie interceptor and the minbari nial, both are very sleek interceptor fighters.

I like the original starfury, the X-Wing, the TIE Defender, the TIE Phantom, and the N-1. The Arwing, from Starfox is very cool, as are the Paktan, Vaktoth, Excalibur, and Thunderbolts from Wing Commander.

The Excalibur was an awesome fighter, but visual effect from the Wing Commander series goes to the Kilrathi in general.

I always liked Vader's tie from ANH. For me, it ranks up there with the top of the top.

I ALMOST agreed with Bob... the Excalibur is a BEAUTIFUL ship, sleek and clean, and packing firepower.

BUT... the absolute coolest has to be the Gunstar. Excalibur is a close second.

There will never be a resolution in the evolution vs creationism debate because neither side can conclusively prove that they are right. The creationists can't prove that they're right becuase they're not, and the evolutionists can't prove that they're right because the creationists are too damn stupid to listen.

This is a tough one
Excalibur from Wing Commander 3 and 4
Tie Interceptor
X-Wing
A-Wing
Gunstar from The Last Starfighter
GTF Apollo from Freespace
Myrmidon from Freespace 2
Tie-Defender
Tac-Fighter
Vampire from Wing Commander Prophecy
Panther from Wing Commander Prophecy
Rapier from Wing Commander 2
Sabre from Win Commander 2
Centurion from WC Privateer
Demon from WC Privateer

Geeze, so many good fighter designs, I can't pick a real favorite.

The Minbari fighters look pretty cool. As is the Tie-defender.
But I will always like the Dragon from WC4. It's a pretty hefty fighter, but at least it can cloak.

A-Wing is my most favorite. Fast and sleek.

Although, a few other favorites include:
X-Wing
TIE-Defender (gotta love that trip-wing)
Slipfighters from Andromeda
Y-Wing
TIE-Interceptors
the fighter from Last Starfighter (it just looked so cool for its time)
the ones from Independence Day (also cool looking)
Vorlon fighters (ooooh, blinky lights)

You know, I just thought of something. Star Trek doesn't have starfighters. At least not in the sense of like in SW, etc. Yes, I know the Defiant was sort of a starfighter. But, you don't see a whole squad of Defiant class anywhere.
