Hey, you brought up the lesbian possibilities. I looked at the pics in a perfectly innocuous light until you mentioned "lesbian."
Really, I did!
Really, I did!

Hey, don't look at me! I was looking at it from that way, too. It wasn't until Saurencaerthai that I thought that others might be thinking about it differently.Darth Yoshi wrote:Hey, you brought up the lesbian possibilities. Of course it's not canon, but it does do a much better job of illustrating just how bad things are and how much suffering is happening because of these events in the characters lives. After all, in the anime, you never really got to know much about Suzuhara and when he dies it's bad, but it's not a devestating event because you don't associate with him, but more with Shinji, since it's shown as more of a disaster from him than anyone else. In the manga, when he dies, it's completely crushing, because Sadamoto allowed you to see Toji as a character, with motivations and relationships that drive the events up until his death. Suddenly, you realize the magnitude of what happened and it effects everyone. The manga does this sort of character development for most of the characters in the story, and thus is a hundred times more effective than the anime is. Anno, despite inventing it, never really gave the world and the characters within it nearly as rich and complex a history. If nothing else, the manga makes the anime far more complete. The anime simply doesn't convey the end of the world as well, nor does it bother developing much of it's cast, which is a shame.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:The manga is non-canon, actually.
While the manga is interesting, Sadamoto makes some really weird alterations with the story and themes. I don't think that he had a better grasp on Eva then Anno, especially given that Anno created Eva in the first place.

In the anime, no. He seemed to lose part of a leg and possibly an arm, though, and I don't think we ever saw him (or even had real mention of him) after that scene of him in the hopsital.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:Suzuhara didn't die, though...
In the manga, though, he does die, and it more deeply affects Shinji. He blames both himself and his father for murdering his best friend. Merely injuring him in the anime doesn't seem to have the lasting effect that Sadamoto seems to be going for in the manga.

Too true. It was a far more important event for Suzuhara to die, because it carried alot more emotional issues with it than him simply being badly hurt and then never seen again.Shadowhawk wrote:In the anime, no. Whatever. I just don't care about the manga much, since it isn't official.

Oh, so that's where this thread went.
I don't know about that. He'd be going after jailbait, and for some reason I just can't picture him doing that.David wrote:Methinks Spanky has an Evangelion fetish. Good thing these people aren't real, or Spanky would be just like --Leia--.

Of course not. What, David, do you think I'm some kind of pervert that would go after fourteen-year-old girls? I'm 21, for Christ's sake...
Besides, if I did have an Eva fetish, I would have thought that the picture was depicting Asuka and Rei as lesbians and not as friends...

Well, it is considered to be of the best anime series ever made...
It's excellent as long as you're not a moron.
PS: Just keep in mind that the two films are the offical and actual ending.

Well, Death & Rebirth were a synopsis of the TV series, only setting the stage for EoE. So as long as you don't start with EoE, you'll be fine.Mutant Headcrab wrote:Dont try to watch the movies first though. Youll end up wondering what the hell just happened half way thrpugh. Trust me, I know
