Mixed Sex Chimaeric embryo produced
Now, I'm really confused- not only by the 'ethical objections' that have once again are alluded to but never justified, but by the entire point of the research....
why?

This part is the focus of the research:innerbrat wrote:Mixed Sex Chimaeric embryo produced

investigated whether healthy cells from one embryo could be implanted into a second defective embryo.

Yes, but why not just use the healthy embryo?Warspite wrote: This part is the focus of the research:

Ahh, but with a cloned healthy embryo, one has an industry for genetic "corrections".
I don't think the researchers intend this project to be applied as is, more likely, the fruits of the research will be gained from the acquired experince in gene-manipulation.
Something puzzles me, if the only intervention was in mixing two embryos (of the same species), why the ethical outburst?

Well, if a genetic disorder (like CF) specifically targets one tissue system, and you can replace the relevant somite cells with genetcially healthy cells, you can eliminate that disorder in terms of phenotypic expression without changing the fate of the rest of the individual.Embracer Of Darkness wrote:And this supposedly treats disorders, how? The way I see it, this is utterly pointless. Scientists are getting bored.
Of course, any offspring would possibly have the same genetic disorder.

Is it the same news story as this?
Yes, but it uses an inappropriate and bigoted sexual slur to describe the process, and thus misrepresents what is actually being done.

Biology is not my strongpoint, but I understand now. I still think creating a hermephrodite is a product of boredom though.

i think its funny how they say the production of a hermaphrodite is disgusting a wrong. I'd love to see what they think of NATURAL hermaphrodites. Granted, herms are usually not fully developed in either parts of their gender-specific anatomy which leads to complications later, but creating fully operational hermaphrodites is not immoral at all.
Sì! Abbiamo un' anima! Ma è fatta di tanti piccoli robot.
But it's not an hermaphrodite. An hermaphrodite has the gentalia of both sexes. this is merely a clump of cells, which, if allowed to develop, would produce one set of genatalia of whichever sex the cells from that somite were...

Don't know that it's necessarily a slur, but it's my understanding that the term "she-male" usually describes men with some female attributes (breasts, finer bone structure, larger hips, etc.) - but with only male genitalia.innerbrat wrote:Yes, but it uses an inappropriate and bigoted sexual slur to describe the process, and thus misrepresents what is actually being done.
What annoys me about these kinds of news stories is that the quoted scientists don't say why they find something unethecial or illogical. I get the feeling the media is truncating their statements. I should think that a scientist in good standing would be able to articulate at least some sort of reasoning behind a conclusion.
If they don't want to, that's fine, but there shouldn't be credentials attached to the statement in that case.

Becuase they have no seince of moral resposeablity they are tappering with things that they can barely understand, mork my words with in the next 10-20years there will be such horror becuase of this reckless expreamenting that will shake the human race to the core.innerbrat wrote:Mixed Sex Chimaeric embryo produced
