Kieslers no longer ships ammo to NY State...

Post by MKSheppard »

Kieslers is now no longer selling ammunition to people who live in NY State.

Their policy, effective 4/30/03, is that they will not sell any ammunition to NYS residents, but it is not based on any new law that was slipped by without notice.

It is apparently a case of their legal council reacting to New York State Penal Law Section 270.00(5):
5. Notwithstanding the provisions of subdivision four of this section, it shall be unlawful for any dealer in firearms to sell any ammunition designed exclusively for use in a pistol or revolver to any person, not authorized to possess a pistol or revolver. The violation of this section shall constitute a class B misdemeanor.
Others have reported that in conversations with a phone representative at Kieslers, they were told that they were advised that any liability incurred by "potential violations" was not worth the risk, and that they had adopted a blanket policy towards ammo sales to NYS.

In other words, Kiesler could legally sell NYS residents ammo, but they simply choose not to!

I salute them!

If I was in the business of selling ammunition and/or firearms parts,
I would simply refuse to do business with anyone in certain states
such as California, Massachusetts, and New York..it just isn't worth
the hassle trying to keep up with all the damn laws that get passed
in those parts, and I'd like to stay out of jail...

I agree with you in that if it were me I wouldn't want to put up with the hassle, but in a fashion, what Kiesler is doing is bound to be seen as a victory on the side of the gun control fanatics.

Hopefully though, their actions will piss off enough people in New York and wake up a few in the other states you mentioned to the fact that they may end up being disarmed in a piece by piece defacto basis just because their states have over legistlated.

It's too early to tell for certain but I think this fits into the "death by a thousand cuts' strategy of the anti-gun croud. :?

Which is why ever law has to be opposed. I could agree with many laws individually but they always lead to more and more.

Yeah, it's too bad people can't stop with what is sensible. Unfortunately there are extremely varrying opinion on what is sensible gun control.

I'm waiting for the Judge Dredd type gun where the DNA of the person firing the gun is tagged on each bullet when they pull the trigger. Nice fantasy, but you'd think something like that would make it much easier to get the problem gun users off of the street.

Right on. The laws we have now need to be enforced, as they are sufficient. Seems as though every time a new law is passed, another more restrictive law comes in just a little while later.

This new policy can have a double meaning. On one hand, it says to NY that everybody else doesn't like their draconian gun laws and it is time to loosen up and get some more sensible laws. On the other hand, this could be considered a victory for the anti's, for the aforementioned reasons.

Well, every new gun restriction starts off as "this is all we want, just to close this little loophole".

As soon as it is passed, the tune changes: "this is really window dressing, and just the beginning. We really need ot get tougher and this opens the door for more needed laws."

Jeez, then they wonder why we don't trust them and fight tooth and nail against any new restriction....
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
