Hardcore Star Wars fan builds Imperator-class computer case

Post by Crayz9000 »

According to The Register:

Star Destroyer case mod brings PC under Imperial heel
By Tony Smith
Posted: 03/07/2003 at 14:42 GMT

Watch out, Han Solo, the Empire is preparing to strike back. After we reported yesterday on case modder Russ Caslis' attempt to wrap a model Millennium Falcon around a PC, we've now learned that Australian case modifyer Bluesmurf is building his computer into an Imperial Star Destroyer.

According to the fellow's web site, the project centres on the construction of model ship just over a metre in length 30cm high and 65cm across. Caslis' used an old toy Millennium Falcon as the basis for his mod - Bluesmurf is building his ship from scratch.

The wedge-shaped pride of the Imperial fleet will be build out of aluminium, so we'd suggest that it just has to contain the innards of a Power Mac G5. As yet Bluesmurf hasn't decided what mobo or processor his star system-smashing system will contain, but it will boast an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card and all the trimmings.

Bluesmurf, aka Antony Winn, has been working in his Star Destroyer PC, aka Imperator, since April 2001. With the primary research, design and planning under his belt, he commenced construction earlier this year. Antony cites seeing Star Wars in 1977 as his ultimate inspiration for the project, in particular the opening shot of the Star Destroyer flying in over the planet Tatooine to dwarf the vessel it's pursuing.

How much has the project cost to date? "Lots," is all Bluesmurf will say. ®

That was the one made to look like the manga version of Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell, right?

IIRC, it was really well done, with an excellent face and fully dressed in combat fatigues...

Saw a computer this guy built to resemble something from the film Brazil, it had a 30's style mechanical keyboard, a seperate keyboard to the side to accomadate everything not covered by 30's typewriters, and a monitor that looked, well, really bizarre.
I want one. It was fully functional.

Haven't seen it yet, and honestly, I'm in no hurry. Wish I could find the link to it, though, it was really effing cool.

He couldn't do much more with it as the power supply was put in the crotch area. :D That would be rather painful to shove your pecker into a spinning fan. :P
