"Its all in the reflexes."
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

As a wise man once said "the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots."
I salute those men and women who have fallen for their country.

That was funny. Every year during our forth of July celebrations the town fire department sets a small building they threw together on fire and then uses its equipment to put out the blaze. Generally there is some theme, in 1991 they had a propane fooled wooded oil well, they had the world trade center after the first attack, once it was the local 911 dispatch center. Well this time around it was just a house with two people sitting on the roof with fireworks.

So smoke starts coming out of the building and the fire department speeds around the parking lot to set up its massive ladder truck pluck them from the seven-foot high roof . Then they cut a hole through the 10x10 foot roof and back off, waiting for flames and nice thick black smoke to show up so there a more impressive show. Standard for this thing.

Well twenty minutes later where all still waiting for flames, I'm joking with my best friend and had been for some time that they should throw a 55 gallon drum of gasoline in there to put on a real show. Well, frustrated by the wait a fireman approaches half concealing a gas can. He walks around the back, one side is part open. Suddenly flames appear and he trots off. However the flames immediately disappear, leaving only small amounts of smoke. So he scurries back out, you can kind of hear him pouring out the whole can and suddenly the flames are about five feet high coming out of the hole in the roof and pouring out of eves. Three house lines then crush the flames with some strange kind of foam for wood fires. It's also cool to see the volunteer fire department of a town of 6000 running around with multiple FLIR units that are probably more advanced then what the original M1 carried.

All very amusing. the opposite happened back when they had the propane oil well, the flames where so large they had to reel out extra hoses and turn down the pressure.

Happy Fourth of July folks!

I am proud to be an American! For anyone questioning that, I say this. I've made mistakes, we've all made mistakes. Some people say we shouldn't be ashamed of ourselves. But I say we should be as proud of our mistakes as our achievements. For both help us to learn and to grow as a people and a nation. So to this, I am proud. In a way, it proves I am a person. A living person who wakes up each morning and makes decisions either for good or for bad. God damnit I am proud to be a fucking American. I salute any and all millitary past, present and future. ¤§¤

I ran 'Battlestations' on the Fourth of July at boot Camp last year. At the ceremony afterwards they played "I'm proud to be an American."

Wasn't a Dry eye in the room, I tell you.

"If tomorrow all the things were gone,
I’d worked for all my life.
And I had to start again,
with just my children and my wife..."

Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

WooHoo! Good ol' USA, I love my home and I'm proud to serve her. We may not always be perfect but who the hell is, anyway? Damn fine Constitution, damn fine Bill O' Rights, and damn fine ideals.

Now it's time to get drunk, then start lighting fires and playing with explosives. It's great living in this country!

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

I've been helping wake up the neighborhood with the biggest and loudest fireworks i've seen available to consumers.

There's this one tube that does nothing but emit a small shower of sparks and a REALLY FUCKING LOUD BOOM, pause, repeat for a longer time, pause, and just when you think it's over, it emits its ear-piercing boom for a solid 20 seconds. I still hear ringing in my ears (one started to go off before I was done lighting others)

I find it ironic that so many americans are so patriotically narcissitic as to believe that 1812 was written about the war of 1812. Simpletons.

Sucks for you. At one point I could see two separate displays from my roof in addition to two others, which happened at other times.
