He may have a clause in his will preventing anyone of making other SW movies.Shrykull wrote:Will he, after he died, who will star wars movies, wish I could ask him this myself, or maybe someone already has.

That might not be a bad thing. Would you want some one like B&B to take over Star Wars?Montcalm wrote:He may have a clause in his will preventing anyone of making other SW movies.Shrykull wrote:Will he, after he died, who will star wars movies, wish I could ask him this myself, or maybe someone already has.

What, you mean you're actually unhappy to know that?
I for one am glad that there will be only six Star Wars films. That's all there needs to be for the Skywalker Saga.

A movie does not need to constantally have NEW MATERIAL in order to endure as a money maker. Look at The Wizard Of Oz, Gone With The Wind, or It's A Wonderful Life for example. These movies will always have a market partly due to nature of the stories in them. Star Wars will always be a classic.

Now that would just kill me. No more movies? That's fine. No more Star Wars EVER. I don't think I could take it.Durran Korr wrote:SW will probably die with George Lucas. I don't think the EU would outlast his death, either.
Star Wars would die within a decade, much as it did after ROTJ. Not that GL would care; he's gonna have hundred dollar bills lining his jewel-encrusted gold casket anyways.

Others should keep in mind that that doesn't mean that fan support or interest in Star Wars will die at that time. Interest in Star Wars will most likely continue for quite some time after Lucas' death.

There's also the fact that the EU itself seems to be winding down a bit with the end of the NJO. I don't see where the GFFA can go after the Vong invasion and the recovery from it; maybe Denning's trilogy will show us. There only seems to be so much that can be done in the prequel era, as well, since there is no gigantic window of space like there is with post OT SW (unless they intend to go into The Dark Times in great detail).

I for one will welcome an end to the SW gravy train. The Prequels have shown us that the magic is gone and any more movies will only result in ST like messes like Final Frontier and Insurrection. Let it end now, before it sucks even worse.

I think the prequels are good contributions to the Star Wars universe, if not on par with the original films. They could have been something really great, but the sad reality is that GL's writing held them back from true greatness.

Re: Will George Lucas have a successor?
Actually, LucasFilm actually aided the production of some fanfilms such as "Dark Redemption."Montcalm wrote:He may have a clause in his will preventing anyone of making other SW movies.Shrykull wrote:Will he, after he died, who will star wars movies, wish I could ask him this myself, or maybe someone already has.

I would like more SW movies, but perhaps with a break inbetween. And not Skywalker related. I think perhaps 1000 years in the past might be good. Maybe even before that into Exa Kun's time (sp?)...if Lucas acknowledges EU that much...Durran Korr wrote:I think the prequels are good contributions to the Star Wars universe, if not on par with the original films. Not as long as he´s alive.
And come on, the Prequels aren´t THAT bad.
We are just two decades older.

I for one am intrigued by the idea of a movie of some EU novels - the Thrawn Trilogy for example. In my happy little world, the Thrawn Trilogy would make great movies, that is, if no one f***ed with them too much and screwed them over...

The problem is, who should play the characters from the OT who play a part in the Thrawn Trilogy??
The original actors are obviously too old, with a few exceptions, so do we have to stick with lookalikes who are dubbed over by the voices of the original actors? (unless they also are sound-alikes as well as lookalikes)

Is there any real reason why a company should hold a copyright long after the material is no longer profitable?Of course, that's not exactly a bad thing...
