80s Cartoons

Post by Hethrir »

Due to our derailing of Innerbrats thread, I thought i should start a new one.

Which 80s Cartoons did you like, and why? My overall favourite was Inspector Gadget because of his cool car and gadgets. I loved his rocket skates, but he would only use his normal skates all the time :(

I am a child of Gadget. I loved that show.

And then Disney had to go rape my childhood with those awful movies.

TRANSFORMERS ALL THE WAY!!

Too bad I can't remember that much of it. But - hey - it has giant robots, overtly melodramatic villains and lots of explosions - what's not to like about it?

(Yes - I know it borrows the whole "transforming humanoid machine-o'death" theme from Macross)

Also, what about James Bond Jr.??? Am I the only one to remember that?

I suppose that raping "the 1000 Arabian Nights", Victor Hugo, Hans Christian Anderson, various folk tales, and the Grimms wasn't enough for Disney. They've even raped paleontology and zoology!
Hokey masers and giant robots are no match for a good kaiju at your side, kid

I remember that show! It was a little late for me, i was watching less cartoons by those years, so only watched it a few times.

I swear the crap that is on TV these days is utter trash! How do kids put up with it? Pokemon and telletubbies *shudder* I think if inspector gadget was back on, i would watch it.

On Pokémon:

In the 1980s, the series which introduced westerners to anime were Robotech and Starblazers. (I haven't seen the former, but I dimly recall enjoying "Starblazers") Today, it's Pokémon and Dragon Ball Z.

Yet another possible one of my trademark phrases:

WHAT A DOWNER!

No votes for The Smurfs?

Well, while not an 80's cartoon, I'll have to go with the Coyote and Roadrunner of Buggs Bunny fame. I can watch that show over and over again...

OK...these are 90s cartoons, but i'd just like to say my views.

There were 2 sonic the hedgehog cartoons, one was childish and followed the tried and tested same-plot-every-episode method of making kids like it :|. There was the usual for its ilk: the bungling bad guy, dr robotnik, his bungling sidekicks, and the hero and his sidekick, who always said "funny" heroic things after effortlessly defeating the bad guy.

Now the other one...that was a different story...well not really, it still had robotnik, but he was a proper villain, and had taken over most of Sonic's world. Sonic was the leader of an animal vs robots resistance, and it was much darker, had proper stories, and was drawn much better. The shame was, the rubbish tried and tested sonic was favoured, presumably because it was much easier to produce, but IT WAS SHIT.

...my views.

I can't believe no one here has mentioned Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles yet.

The Smurfs actually started out as a French comic book IIRC.

Rock on! Those were the Satuday Morning Sonic cartoons and were excellent. I just wished they made more of them, since they clearly intended to make more after Robotropolis got blown up and Snivley became the main badguy, but they never followed through. But I remember those cartoons very fondly.

More 80s cartoon that were great.

Masters of the Universe (the classic)

Thundercats (another classic)

The Super Mario Show (and the Legend of Zelda Friday show, cause Link was so damn horny in it "Saved you again Princess... KISS ME!")

Transformers (how could you not love them?)

GI Joe (Go Joe!)

Captain N (of course, that was a funny show)

Pirates of Dark Water (Heh, I still say "Cheetatan Monkey Bird!" and "Noy Sheetat!")

James Bond Jr. (He chases SCUM and also banged a new girl every episode)

Captain Planet (yes, Captain Planet, it was cheesy, but I still watched it)
"Show me an angel and I will paint you one." - Gustav Courbet

"Quetzalcoatl, plumed serpent of the Aztecs... you are a pussy." - Stephen Colbert

"Really, I'm jealous of how much smarter than me he is. I'm not an expert on anything and he's an expert on things he knows nothing about." - Me, concerning a bullshitter

Action Force. I remember before GI Joe came in and took over it was Action Force. I had all the toys and boycotted it when the yanks took over. I kept hoping their'd be a misunderstanding and that the fight with cobra would become a 3-way. I was dissapointed.

There you go Astro Boy.
On your flight into space.
Rocket high, through the sky
What adventures soon you will make.

Astro Boy bombs away
On your mission today
Here's the countdown, and a blast off
Everything is GO Astro boy.

Astro Boy as you fly,
Strange new worlds you will find
Atom sound jet propelled,
Fighting monsters high in the sky.

Astro Boy there you go
Will you fight friend or foe?
Cosmic ranger, life of danger,
Everything is GO Astro Boy.

Friends will cheer you
You're our hero
As you go go GO Astro Boy.
I liked Astro Boy. I thought the name 'Dr. Elephant' was totally bizarre.

check this out, a new series http://www.anime-tourist.com/article.php?sid=452
