Folding at Home and Seti at Home

Post by SyntaxVorlon »

I'm sure someone has long ago posted something about these two. So which do you use?

I forgot both, I have two computers available to me, and I have one of each, dumb me dumb me.

Faram, is that "wu" work unites or just work hours?
If the former, then you must own a server.

I don't do either, mainly because I don't leave my computer on all night long, and I'm only on dial-up. However, I do know someone that built a huge folding farm in his own house.

Do they give you anything for completing the data units?

P.S. aside from that there "certificate"?
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

With the folding thing, you get prizes, or so I'm told...

Folding Proteins for a cure for Cancer or something, I think. Haven't done it myself, just helped people set it up.

You can fold for folding at home or genome at home, both are for the same basic thing. Because proteins fold in on themselves extremely quicky understanding how they work and what their specific fuction is requires knowledge of how they fold and what they look like afterward, so this program emulates every nanosecond of the folding process, and allows the people at the work stations in stanford to work out what they do.
And it's not just for cancer I don't think, they are also researching proteins as nanotechnology.

I bet they won't give the fold@home-ers a bit of the income when they make protein nanorobots with the help of distributed computing. THOSE BASTARDS!

I use the unified F@H/G@H client. Both are likely to have more real-world uses than SETI@home.
