Thanks Howedar, now that I see it, I recognize it. British planes of the 20s and 30s were kinda hit or miss in the looks department, Blackburn definetly missed with that one! Pee-yoo! :D

He's not, plan was to train 16 year olds in gliders launch from hillsides and then throw them into jets.
I can believe people of that age flying aircraft. (After all, I've read "Vector Prime" where 16-year old Jaina Solo flies an X-Wing)

But when I read the bit about Hitlerjugend pilots, I thought of 11-year old boys at the controls of a warplane! The horror, the HORROR!!

Not that unbelievable, since all male high school students in Nazi Germany were trained in rifle shooting.

I guess they had a surplus of glider pilots when their no-engine B-109 towed bomber interceptor failed.

The F-111 was originally going to be amoung other things a naval interceptor armed with Eagle long range AAM's as a replacement for the canceled F6D Missilier, which was basically a flying SAM site. However as the F-111 program dragged on it became more a more apparent that it would utterly suck even if its only missions was to fire 100-mile range missiles at bombers. The navy pulled out of the program and built the F-14, and the Eagle was improved to become Phoenix
bah, even the Natter could lob rockets at bombers. It would have had a near 100% attrition rate, but it could shot rockets!

[1] That’s a fictional series of books
[2] Even in said books she had years of experience

These kids would have had ZERO experience in powered aircraft before being thrown into poorly built jet fighters to fly combat missions after a few weeks training. For comparison the US pilot training program was 18 months long with hundreds of hours of flight training. It was then followed by additional training on whatever type of aircraft the pilot was assigned.

There were also plans for some to have twin 30mm cannon in place of 73 or 55mm rockets. Of course initial plans also called for each wooden Natter to making a ramming attack after firing its weapons.

WHAAAT???? This is just plain crazy. Even Leon Trotsky wouldn't pass such an unspeakable military decision.
