International Waters
I just realized that you could go out into international waters and do anything you want without breaking any laws. Any illegal shit, if done in international waters, cannot be prosecuted by the state you return to.. :

Re: International Waters
That is incorrect. There are many nations that reserve the right to punish you for crimes you commit against them while in international waters. If you board a ship and kill its crew and then get caught while in that country the crew are from, they will nail your ass. Furthermore if you fuck over a countries local enviroment through dumping of chemicals off shore they will try to get you. Last of all they might send the Coast Guard to hunt your ass down. It is not unknown for the Coast Guard to blow up offending ships with their 76-75mm guns, 25mm chainguns, or .50cal machineguns. Hell, the Coast Guard is very agressive with the Gulf of Alaska which is technicaly international waters. They drive off Japanesse fishing boats and whaling boats all the time.kojikun wrote:I just realized that you could go out into international waters and do anything you want without breaking any laws. Because there's no much to do out on the open sea 365 days a year. And since it's "lawless" anyone could kill you also. It's also very expensive.kojikun wrote:Its interesting that not so many people realise this. you'd think they would. i mean, they bootleg through international waters, why not just stay out there??Vorlon1701 wrote:Yep, I've been contemplating doing that someday, haven't found a boat to do it on...
It's not like you can take your wife out to international waters, kill her, then return home with no fear of justice. It doesn't work that way.

For that matter, sure, you could go smoke in the Gulf, but there's the minor issue that your boat has to originate from somewhere in the US.Frank Hipper wrote:If the Coast Guard catches you with so much as a joint onboard an American flagged vessel, you can be charged with drug trafficking, and have the boat impounded. Most nations enforce their laws out to at least their 200 NM economic exclusion zone limit, and there are various laws of the sea, which get enforced even outside of that. The high seas really are not free, its just hard to enforce the law out on them. Though the USCG sometimes patrols out, as far as 1000 miles and for some reason has a presence in the Persian Gulf.
Nations tend to get really pissed about violations of their EEZ's, Argentina once sent out a light cruiser to sink poaching Soviet trawlers and then we have the whole Cod War between the UK and Iceland.

I can do that at home with little fear of the cops. As long as I'm not in public the police are very hard-pressed to bust me.kojikun wrote:no but you can go out and do various illegal drugs and the like.TheFeniX wrote:It's not like you can take your wife out to international waters, kill her, then return home with no fear of justice. Before you get to international waters, you passed through your nation's waters with an illegal substance. There's your crime.

I guess you could probably live on a boat out in the Pacific and grow pot on a small, rocky, windswept island unclaimed by any nation. But that would suck and you'd die of starvation.

Outside of the Antarctic, which is governed by a number of international treaties, I don’t think you can find a single unclaimed island.

Then you must conquer one silly. The Duke of Chutney and SS. SSSSSSSS (we only had the 'S' stencil) propose a voyage to steal the Galapagos from...Whichever European nation lays claim to it! Be wary of knife-wielding monkeys, and giant turtles who are their calvary! Who's with me!!!Sea Skimmer wrote:Outside of the Antarctic, which is governed by a number of international treaties, I don’t think you can find a single unclaimed island.

Ecuador owns the Galapagos. When I was but a wee lad at the age of 11 I had dreams of buying the Galapagos from Ecuador should I ever become rich enough.Darth Garden Gnome wrote:Then you must conquer one silly.
