It really depends on the quality of gun, I think--I was taking a minimal approach. Cheap Mauser, box of bullets, orange vest, and hunting license. Naturally this would increase if you needed to learn how to shoot before hunting season started, but should be theoretically possible. The extra fifty dollars certainly helps.Sea Skimmer wrote:

Well if you could get something used it should be doable, with a new weapon which can drop decent sized game I'm not so sure. The Duchess of Zeon wrote:

So, I have to spend 7-21 hours doing shit (i.e. WORKING) before the game starts to get "good"?
You're telling me I have to WORK at the game to enjoy it?
When I get an AT-ST, I don't pilot it but rather I have it as some sort of fucking PET?!?
Bullshit and shenanigans. Toss this one on the "disappointment" list. If this is standard MMORPG fare, I guess I should be grateful that MMORPGs will probably never appeal to me, even in the guise of Star Wars.

I bet they make it an expansion and charge you money for it.And a space expansion is already in the works.
Pet AT-STs? It's worse than I thought. Must be a holdover until after vehicles are implemented.
In my view, if I have a steady flow of income and the game evolves into something *good*, then I might actually try my hand at it. I've never played a MMORPG before.
Right now, it's just EQ in space.

Maybe i'm a badly burned uo player.. but i played 5 years and i'm having more fun in SWG than i had in uo since the trammel facet came out..Lord Pounder wrote:I may get SWG furthern down the line after it gets it's shit togeather. From all the things i've heard on this board and from other sources i'm not convinced. At the moment i'm very happy in Ultima, if your ever in Europa server, Haven or Despise look out for Mr Peachyman. UO and EQ are proven games, with solid backing SWG is neither. Maybe a few months down the line when i've got an Uber UO warrior i'll look into it. For now it's too buggy and badly supported from what i've seen.
Sweet jesus on a stick! Hey isnt that what we call easter?
Really now??? If games were released finished then their would be no reason to evolve and grow. Would people still be playing EQ years after its initial release if the original game was "finished" and no expansions were released? I doubt it.Coaan wrote:Games are released finished. The game has only been out a week
That is just a sorry excuse for a half arsed MMORPG which isn't even half done yet despite the fact they spend absolute ages making it..
Even non MMORPGs grow and evolve. Just look at The Sims, It has had six expansion packs since it was intially released. Each adding new content that made the game more enjoyable.

Adding in features that were already supposed to be in the game, but were cut to get it out on time: not ok.
People still play JK1, Counter-Strike, and many other stagnant games.
I'm not spending $200 to get the full experience of a game (unless it's Steel Battalion). On the flip side: look at Half-Life. Over 5 years old, still being patched (for free), still has mods being released for it (for free).Even non MMORPGs grow and evolve. Just look at The Sims, It has had six expansion packs since it was intially released. Each adding new content that made the game more enjoyable.
MMO's are different than standard games anyways. But I still won't buy a game that was shipped incomplete intentionally. I'll stick with games like J-O which were perfect to begin with, then got screwed up by the patches.

the other day, my fellow DG member became a declared Imperial. he was in the cantina in Coronet when a group of rebels stormed in and tried to take him down. then the next day he escaped to naboo, and over the /tell message, he was calling for help for the others to come to naboo and help get him out of a rebel ambush. myself, i get rounded up and jumped all the time. yup. who would have known, if you want to start out as a gun totin' jedi knight, there's a game for that. if you want to role play the star wars experience, play more than one hour and you'll get it. hell, who says the star wars experience is just being a jedi knight? many people have different ideas. hell, star wars has more than just jedis and imperials. it has dancers, musicians, engineers. yeah, that's right, you have to build your shelters and buildings. fuck man. this game is getting better. i havent even stepped foot on the battlefields yet. heh. waiting to have a few people watch my back.

If computer games come out finished, then why are there always patches and updates? I knew long before this game was even marked for any release date, that like every other PC game there'd be something missing, or patches, or updates. fuck. this is almost a leveling of the playing field. by the time they get the player cities, vehicles, and the space expansion out, the hard workers will be ready for it (like myself). figurin all the problems that can crop up, i want them to find all the bugs and glitches before adding anything else.

Online games should cost about the price of the software itself for a YEAR of gameplay. $40 or $50 a year is not so terrible, and it makes sense (since I could be playing a very good game for a year or so... and how many people still play Half-Life? It's been out for ages)
$15 a month = $180 a year?! WTF
$15 a month = $180 a year?! WTF
I will agree with you on this, if it was a regular game. But with MMORPGs add-ons, upgrades, and expansions are to be expected.TheFeniX wrote:Adding in features not promised in the original release specs: ok.

Right now, I can live without vehicals because I know they are coming. Some people would rather play the game as soon as possible rather then wait through another delay. I think the game is still fun and entertaining, even without all the features enabled and in the end, isnt that all that matters?

For you and most other people: yes.Macross wrote:I think the game is still fun and entertaining, even without all the features enabled and in the end, isnt that all that matters?
For me: No.
I've always wanted what I was promised when offered a product or service. If I say I'm going to install Cat6 cabling and I install Cat5e, the customer isn't going to care if I "install the stuff I promised, later." He's going to pull my contract and kick my ass out on the street.
I tracked Galaxies from the beginning until I got the e-mail and did some reading on all the features they were cutting so they could move up the ship date. Then I just listened to all the crap posted on the other forums I visit and I became even more disatisfied.
Galaxies has been promoted so long and I just expect more from the license. That's me, and only me. If you like the game, then by all means play it, but I'm just pissed I'm not getting what was originally promised.
Solution: I'll stick with JA and HL2. In all honesty, I don't even know why I'm that pissed. I've never liked MMO's anyways. Maybe I just thought Galaxies would change the genre for the better. Hopefully the future will show me as wrong about my feelings on this.
I never really liked MMO either but this is the first one that I have really enjoyed playing.TheFeniX wrote:For you and most other people: yes.

The over-emphasis that past and other current games have on Jedi being PCs (not to mention Rebel/NR centricism) is frankly almost embarassing.
I agree most of the SW games are based on the rebel scum bags and that just so much bull shit!

Finished as in YOU CAN DO EVERYTHING THE GAME SAYS IT CAN DO. Has Swg done this? Nup. Sure it might be a good idea to have everying work up a bit for when they supposedly add something...but it's shoddy work when the best they can do is release something that's a shell and add the bits it SHOULD have been released with.
Patches or updates can serve another purpose. For example diablo 2...the upcoming patch is going to breath a new kind of life into the game, hopefully removing most of the cheaters...but that you can only hold your breath for. They released a finished game and are now making it better, fixing bugs etc etc...not adding bits to the game that should be there...wouldn't you be pissed off if you had to wait while they 'added' the ability to finish the game and kill diablo or baal? I know I would

Earning experience? IMO, I hate earning experience. And beside, if you shoot rabbits at point blank range, you can't fucking go after rebels unless they're fellow rabbit murderers. If you dont want to hunt "rabbits", there are plenty of Jawas, Ewoks, Gungans, Moisture Farmers, Settlers, droids, and other NPCs that you can shoot at. Hunting animals is the best way because you earn experiance and you get payed for it.

MMO costs are a bit deceptive. The price for the game itself usually drops to about $20 fairly quickly(within a year), and when expansions come out they usually bundle it. For instance, you can now buy EQ with all the expansions but the latest one for the same price as the original game. This kind of screws over the early buyers. If you buy later, you get an all around cheaper, and definitely much better product Speaking as someone who nearly had to repeat a grade because of Everquest and a beta tester for EVE Online, I'd like to say that the first year of any MMO is just extended beta testing that you have to pay for, and it'll still be like that as long as people keep buying unfinished games.
I intend to buy SWG eventually, but I'm waiting at the very least for the starship expansion. Maybe a Coruscant one, which would rock. Just out of curiosity, how's the Imperial officer line at the moment?
