I've officially just passed University. With a credit - tending towards distinction - average. I am now the proud holder of a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Tasmania majoring in Political Science, Ancient Civilisations and History.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

I hear Tasmania has a very good market for hunter-gatherers.

Hey this isn't what I ordered!

Remember that, I expect you'll be hearing it often at your next job.

He was being overly blunt, but very regretably, accurate. There are some majors that you cannot get a job with unless you've got a masters and even then there isn't alot of calling for it. Best find a college or university that is looking for someone in that field and go into teaching.

Then he could be Dr. Ando, Professor of Pol-Sci, Ancient Civs, and History.

My sister got a B.A. (psycology), discovering too late that it was useless. She is now finishing her nursing program and working in the ER of the Royal Victoria hospital. If she had figured this out a while ago, she could have knocked off two years off her schooling.

Moral: unless you are a real "go-getter", if you want a carreer you'll probably have to get more specific education in an applied skills field.

I thought it was, "do you want fries with that?" (only six words)

Or I suppose it could be, "do you want to supersize that?"

I'd probably enjoy them more if my degree wasn't a BA in history. :?

There are jobs available for people with BAs in history that actually make use of that degree but finding one with an opening is really difficult.

Ando, does Australia require a specific degree to teach or can you get a teaching certificate (usually requires a few more classes) allowing you to teach? I didn't want to teach in Arizona schools so I never tried that route. As it is the shortage of substitutes mean I could probably go work as one right now if I wanted.

Ando, go into teaching, history, or sociology... then after you have done so for a while, you will have enough name recognition to run for a local office(make sure your students LIKE you)

Well, post grad is out of the question for the moment as:

a) in Australia post-grad actually means something and your standard degree is actually worth something too.

b) if I'm going to do post-grad, goddamnit, I'm not going to do it at UTas, although our PolSci faculty is the recognised world leader in Terrorism studies.

c) I'm applying for a whole bunch of public service graduate positions - yes, yes, me creating policy for Australia! Bwhahahahah!

d) The coup-d'etat is an option and for several years a few friends and I have been putting together various options for this scenario...
