Satanists & Murder/Mayhem

Post by Kitsune »

There have been stories about satanists murdering, kidnapping, and commiting other heneous acts for years. In the mid 90s, PBS did a front line episode debunking most of these. What I am curious is does anyone know any websites debunking these Myths about Satanism?

Try the FBI, their investigative reports into Satanic cult activities regularly turn up precisely nil. Those reports are also available on the website I believe.

I lived in the area where the McMartin pre-school abuse case began all this shit in the mid-eighties. Talk about your witch-hunt hysteria!

There have been a few cases of fanatical Satanists burning down churches and harrassing clergy, but that has primarly been in Europe. I can't recall hearing deliberate arson against churches in any other nations than Norway and Poland, so that "Satanic Panic" in the 1980s was probably just mass hysteria.

I'm also sure that some Satanists have killed other people, but I don't think that had any connection to their religious beliefs.

However, the average Church Of Satan member isn't likely to put anything or anyone on fire. In fact, the LaVeyian Satanists, who seem to be the far biggest Satanic denomination, follow a quite humanist philosophy. (the church-burners from Norway are generally considered kooks, even among other occultists. It doesn't help that most of them play in weird metal bands whose album covers usually resemble screen captures from a bad zombie movie)

Usually the ones that commit those violent acts just call themselves satanists, but don't actually know what they are talking about. As far as I know Satanists aren't really violent people at all. I also believe I read that Satanists were originally people who believed in science over religion.. known pretty much as an atheist now. But a little more on topic, no I havn't ever really heard of anything happening, even when I lived in Europe. I think it's pretty rare.

By the way, it should be noted that pagan/Wiccan does not equate to Satanic, no matter how "similar" they may be.

Yes. I was almost waiting for some metal fan to mention Varg Vikernes. I've never been to Norway, but I suppose that in his home country he practically has the same status as Jeffrey Dahmer and Charles Manson have in the USA.

Varg's still very much in his "must kill humanity" frame of mind right now, but what's interesting is that Bard (from what I've read) seems to have cooled down a bit.

If a self-professed Christian murders an abortion doctor, they say "man shoots abortion doctor". If a self-professed Satanist murders somebody, they say "Satanist slayings".

Where have you gleaned that info about Bard??

As for Varg, he was never an avatar of sanity and will never be one. At least not for the next 20 years.

Mainly, it was what I gathered from an interview when he was near the end of his imprisonment.

As for Varg, he's just one messed up fuck.

There was a kid from my hometown that was on vacation near the border got killed in Matamoras, Mexico they found his body along around 30 others in a mass grave. It was at the time linked to the occult, it was implied at the time it was a Satanic cult. IIRC his name was Mark Kilroy, and now Santa Fe (Texas) has some sort of memorial for him somewhere.
