Do SW ships have an alternate FTL drive in case of trouble?

Heir to the Empire. Luke's X-wing busted its hyperdrive escaping from the Chimera, so Han towed it back to Sluis Van in time to drive off an Imperial attack.

The Falcon needed some time to get to Bespin, since while that's happening LUke is off training on Dagobah. That's at least a week's worth of time, at the very least.

Phew. Thought we were in trouble there for a moment. So which book does the Falcon piggy-back an X-Wing into hyperspace?

I think that this is a misinterpretation of the dialogue. IIRC, the exact phrase is: "Typically, an Imperial Star Destroyer always dumps its' garbage before jumping to lightspeed." (although I might have the phrase slightly wrong :P ). Anyway, this isn't saying that they always dump before they jump. What the phrase means is whenever they have any garbage, then they will dump it before jumping to lightspeed. Even a ship as large as an ISD can't produce that much debris in a short stay in-system.
The quote is: "If they follow standard procedure they'll dump their garbage before they go to lightspeed and then we'll just float away."

Despite the SW essential chronology which states a backup drive was used, the SW TESB radio drama states that the trip occurs entirely via sublight.

What this probably means is that the Falcon should have a near c drive at least.Probably the drive that deccelerates the ship after the exit to hyperspace(and the entry to hyperspace?)And maybe, even maybe, that the Falcon is really, really capable of going to 1.5c using sublight drives

The novelisation backs up the notion that Needa didn't follow standard procedure by inserting the words"this time"
