They do not permit life beside their's.

Then why the tentacles? There very biological but are just god awful from an engineering standpoint.

Actually, The whole thing actually resembles like a giant squid that ate a giant metal dart, but the dart has mostly smashed through the back of its head.

The tentacles are there to catch/smash other ships.

And it gives a wicked touch.

Technically he's right. Why anyone would make a ship out of organics requires loads of technobabble to rescue it from stupidity, and as such, he's not a big fan of it.
