James Bond vs Ethan Hunt
Simple: they are both in the mission to annihilate each other.
Premise:
- They got their mission on the same time, so no one outstart another.
- They got their usual support (Bond and his gadgets, Ethan with his teammates, etc, etc)
- They both are already aware of each other's strength and weakness.
- no Character Shield (TM) allowed, but reasonable extrapolation from past events is allowed (ie, saying "He is James Bond! Bond can't be killed!" is utterly stupid, while "we know that Bond has did <yadda, yadda> in the past, so it is possible that he can do <yadda, yadda> in similar situation")
- NO rules of engagement, nor "fair fight" between those two. They are allowed to do any means necessary to carry their mission. They are spies, remember?

I dont think Bond is as clever as Ethan. Bond is just the grab an assult rifle, kill everyone kinda guy, while Ethan kills from the Shadows. In MI:2, Ethan seemed to James Bond-like. One of the reasons i didnt like that movie. And that stupid song by Metallica....I Disappear. God.

Bond is a much cooler, calmer operator, who can save situations even when they're on the brink of disaster. He's not exactly stupid himself, and I think he will succeed in the mission.

they seem very equally matched in their skills.
However, Hunt has 1 ace: disguise.
Bond has "secret identities", where he plays at being someone else, but he almost always uses his real name, and he never disguises his appearance.
Hunt, OTOH, not only plays a secret identity, but also uses disguises (including those voice disguisers in MI2).
So, Hunt has the edge in that he can approach Bond with a decent chance of not being recognized, thus catching Bond off-guard.
Of course, for such a thing to happen, Britain and the US would have to stop being allies...

Bond always works alone, Ethan Hunt always works in a team. How do you do this fairly. If Hunt gets a team of people then its a huge advantage, If he doesn't then Bond gets a huge advantage. Anyway it happens, its what good old James is used to. Bond against the world, READY.............AND GO!
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Actually I don't know how effective Ethan's team will be. I mean, Ethan was quite a single player himself. In terms of teamwork, I think the original IMF team from the TV series is much better. Moreover, Jim Phelps is much better team leader than Ethan, IMHO.Knife wrote: Bond always works alone, Ethan Hunt always works in a team. How do you do this fairly. think the average Bond car is going to rape the entire IMF team..
Bond has often called on assorted Special Forces, the CIA, USMC, USAF, US Army, Royal Navy, Ninjas, and Afghanistani irregular cavalry, Russian underworld leaders and there well armed associates, along with many others.
The IMF team has some handguns, an assault rifle and a civilian helicopter, overly complex plans, and a poor run of luck.
I give it to Bond 8-9 out of 10 times

Bond steals Ethans woman of the moment. Ethan goes into blood-rage and has to be calmed by a team-mate. Ethan decides to attack the Casino where Bond is known to be. Does some stupid acrobatic stunt to get in and is promptly shot by the local SWAT team who were called in by hotel security to deal with someone who appeared to be attempting to break into the vault.

I think this is Ethan's weakness Bond can exploit.weemadando wrote:Bond steals Ethans woman of the moment. Ethan goes into blood-rage and has to be calmed by a team-mate. Remember, in MI-2, Ethan got emotionally attached to Nyah. In world of espoinage, I think this is an unforgivable weakness. Hey, it is your life we're talking about. What if the women you fall in love with is actually enemy agent sent out to kill you?
Bond, OTOH, never showed such weakness. In Goldeneye, when he was asked by <uh, i forgot her name> why he has been so cold, the answer was simple, "it keeps me alive". Two thumbs up!

Indeed, in the last Bond movie (The World is not Enough) he shoots one of the women he gets close to- right in the head.

James Bond has been foiling evil schemes for over 40 years, but only because he's been put in some easily escapable situation all the time.
Ethan Hunt has also had his fair share of success do to the stupidity of the enemy. In the first Mission: Impossible, when he was trying to access the mainframe, they had touch sensors that could detect a drop of water, but they didn't install something like motion sensors or cameras!
It depends on what the battle is. Is it a duel? Is it like some Doom match? What are their weapons?

Which books? Are they canon?Vendetta wrote: Bond, OTOH, never showed such weakness.
Yes he does. Frequently, particularly with Tracy and Tiffany Case (who eventually gets bored of him, by the way).
You should read the books.
If what you mean with "weakness" is easy to lure to bed, maybe you're right. But Bond has no hesitation of putting the bullet in the head of any women he just banged.
