Well, I ask this because there are very split opinion about the fact that all of the cars in Namco's Ridge Racer games are fictitious.
(Not that some of them don't resemble certain real-life cars)
Those who like it that way think it's good because it gives the games developers opportunity to use their imagination - just look at Ridge Racer 4, where one of the cars appear to have three wheels while one of the bonus cars is powered by a rocket.
Those who prefer real-life cars in computer games argue that "It takes a lot of the pleasure away that you're driving a "Lizard", not a Chrysler." (in one reviewer's words)
Your opinion on the subject??? Personally, I don't think it's that important.
(by the way, I know that the Ridge Racer series aren't the only racing games to use fictional cars. But they're the most popular, anyway.)

A Question For Racing Game Enthusiasts
"Hi there, would you like to have a cookie?"
"No, actually I would HATE to have a cookie, you vapid waste of inedible flesh!"

My favourite racing game of all time, NFS I, had real cars as well as a fictitious bonus car. I liked the challenge of striving to win with the Ferrari against the same-class but slightly superior Lamborghinis, but I also loved the insane speed of the bonus car and the barrel-rolling crashes I can send it into in the bonus track
Busily picking nuggets out of my well-greased ass.

NFS
NFS:PU is quite good, and the real cars are key in a game like that where its all realism, with slightly exagerated(read as:fucking insanely poor)steering... and an annoying way to keep you from winning a race. In the golden era 911 turbo challenge, I CANNOT win on normandie! I've got the 3.3l with stage3 turbo, intercooler and everything, BUT IT DOESN'T WORK! the damn thing has SO MANY horses, at least 250 above stock(almost ricing cept I'm actually racing em and its a porshe) that it spins like a mofo, and once the tail goes loose it STAYS loose.
What compounds the annoyance is that I've got the track record for that track in that very same spinster, but the other cars ALWAYS screw me, esp going into the town before the haystack

Authentic. Because usually when they're fantasy, they don't handle like a fucking car. A good reason why I dislike arcade racers. The closest to fantasy cars I go for are the F1 cars in GT3. They're actually based on real cars like all the others, but they're not decaled due to copyrights. As far as getting dents and dings. I always hated that. The NASCAR games were like that, and even though you see thier fucking hoods fly off and wheels go tossing into the pit crew, I still never liked it. I like my cars nice and shiny the whole way through. Damage physically though I'll go for. GT2 had that, so cars would fuck up if you damaged them. heh.

Wipeout?? I thought the vehicles in Wipeout couldn't be considered cars. Heck, the closest thing they resemble are aircraft of some sort.thecreech wrote:I can play both... i love racing games. I love games like GT3 and Sega rally 2 but i can still play games like RR and wipeout.
