Uranium235, I have heard that before, some people enjoy Trek 5,
because they take it as a light hearted semi comedy film, rather than
drama/action.
Many scenes in the film, lend themselvs to that as well. Such as
Sulu and Chekov getting lost, Spock telling Kirk, 'Not in front of the
Klingons' Kirk guessing that is was Spock who had helped make the
jail cell, etc.
I agree that the movie can be enjoyed if you take as a semi comedy
rather than action/drama.
Several episodes of Voyager are like that as well, and I like most of them.
Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy being my fav.

You liked TMP more than ST6? You are obviously a very strange person.Frank Hipper wrote:I've been through this before with people. I hated it. It shocks people, I know, but I enjoy TMP much more.Darth Garden Gnome wrote:You must be kidding. Star Trek 6? The Final Frontier? Are we on the same page here? Next to ST: II, ST: VI is the greatest Star Trek film of all time.Frank Hipper wrote:Hi there. It stunk.
Best thing in ST VI were the K'T'inga closeups.
For me, that is.

Six had the painful analogy between Gorbachev and Gorkon.Darth Wong wrote: You liked TMP more than ST6? You are obviously a very strange person.
Six had a lack of continuity in helm commands that made me cringe. Has anyone ever ordered a course change with the term "rudder" applied to it before, or since?
Six had the Klingons, people who have been active in space for a long time, absolutely confounded by a lack of gravity.
The court scene did nothing for me, that gavel the judge had was silly. Armored gauntlet and all, just too over the top.
And what made you think I was not a strange person? My favoritism could lie in the fact that TMP came out first, but given a choice, I'd still go with it over The Undiscovered Country.

I'm on the crazy drug that makes me think that Star Trek 5 was a better film than Generations (*snore, throw things at screen*), First Contact (*snore*), Insurrection (*snore, retch, snore*) and Nemesis (*throw things at screen*). 5 feels bigger, has better music (some of Goldsmith's best IMO), more *adventure*, less *dreary*, less godawful technobabble, and more fun.YT300000 wrote:Uraniun235 wrote:Frankly, I like Star Trek 5 better than ANY of the TNG films. It's simply more fun as a movie to watch.
I wonder if Star Trek 6 will be a full Director's Edition as TWOK was, or just a "Special Edition".![]()

What are you on?
I like the characters more. I like the sense of "going where no man has gone before". I like watching a movie not so focused on violence, I like the sense of a "bigger" galaxy than what TNG portrays and I like seeing a captain that hasn't been perverted into another goddamn action hero. Think about it, Picard has been toting around that goddamn phaser rifle for the past three movies. It's fucking ridiculous. And frankly, Star Trek 5 doesn't have me ripping my hair out over godawfully gigantic plot holes.
For all the crap that people give Star Trek 5, I honestly think it beats anything Rick Berman has shit out his ass in the past several years. I would pay to see it if the local movie theater decided to run it; I would not do so if it were one of the TNG films.
(Actually, the local theater DOES take requests, so if you all wanted to do me a big favor, you could go to this site and vote for Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan. I would love you all for doing so.)[/url]

No plot holes? How about going to the centre of the galaxy in a couple days? Or the torp landing 4 metres away from Kirk and doing nothing.Uraniun235 wrote:And frankly, Star Trek 5 doesn't have me ripping my hair out over godawfully gigantic plot holes.

In terms of warp, yes.Uraniun235 wrote:I did not say "no plot holes". It's just that those two holes are nothing compared to the TNG films.
Besides, is the center of the galaxy really that much farther away from Earth than the Galactic Barrier at the rim is?
