Britian?
Anyone else ever notice that some British seem to have a bit of a complex about being perceived as "lapdogs" of America?
I've heard some people from other countries toss that line at the Brits, but they're normally folks who have an axe to grind with the US and will always have something nasty to say to those who don't.
Meanwhile, over here in the US, I've never heard a peep of this "lapdog" business. And we usually like talking about who can kiss our ass, if we perceive them that way.

If Religion and Politics were characters on a soap opera, Religion would be the one that goes insane with jealousy over Politics' intimate relationship with Reality, and secretly murder Politics in the night, skin the corpse, and run around its apartment wearing the skin like a cape shouting "My votes now! Well, no-one wants to be told that their country is the lapdog to any other country, it's not something to be proud of if its true. I can imagine it being especially irritating to the extreme patriots, as only 100 years ago, we werent doing to badly for ourselves...
The Lapdog thing has only recently been aired more by British people because of the war, it may have been tossed around before that, but its really come out of the wood work with the Iraq stuff. To a few people over here, it seemed like the UK could have stayed well out of it without damaging the relationship with the US, but then again, others believe that the US-UK relationship is a valuable one - its only because the US is throwing its weight around again (more so than under Clinton - or so it seems - and Clinton was a lot more likable then Bush IMO) and because other countries are standing up to the US that the UK is seen as a lapdog.
Or something.
I suppose it all comes down to a decision over who the UK will throw its lot in with, the US or the EU. Going either way is going to get various insults coming out of the woodwork.
Personally, regardless of the truth of the matter, I cant stand the lapdog jibes, I was watching Blair being asked questions by the public, and as I was coming from an anti-war stance, nothing pissed me off more than to see the people who thought that they were being funny by calling the PM "The Right Honourable Minister for Texas", it degraded the point of the program and ruined any chance for serious debate - you could see it in the PM's face - he knew, as soon as the jokes started, he had it in the bag because they werent making any other points.
And I would imagine the UK doesnt have the lapdog vibe in the US is because Tony Blair was seen very publically to be fighting off press, europe and public hostility (not everyone) because he was fighting for what he believed was right.

Although if you guys would be reasonable and recognise HRH as your sovereign then perhaps we could talk until then you rebels should be shunned by the civilised folk of the world.

And you can't say that about everyone, the French have special laws to keep you lot out (seems odd since the general level of French arrogance should accomplish that without the need for legislation).

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

Lapdog? come on now. Everyone knows that Canada is our lapdog. The fact they stayed out of Iraq was merely act of subterfuge to disguise that. Speaking of lapdogs, would that logic not make Ol' Ronnie Margaret Thatcher's lapdog during that little tiff in the Falklands?
