The Chinese are crazy enough to actually drain the lake just to crush the counter revolutionary myth. Nothing can exist without state control.

And I'm still waiting for the Russians to hunt down that giant bear on the Kamchatka peninsula.

As Dr. Dean Edell frequently says, the Chinese are among some of the most superstitious people on the planet. Obviously, however, lake monsters are not at all confined to China. These things come and go.
