Doesn't change the fact that the government of Iran tortured to death a Canadian citizen.

Well, now that the Ayatollahs have alienated that HUGE segment of the population of their country, you know, the young ones, you'd think they'd be a bit smarter and start laying off the beatings and hard punishments. Oh well, We all know what happens in Absolute Monarchies...*Waves at Marie Antoinette's Head...*

They didn't get on the Axis of Evil for nothing folks. Sadly, this is about par for the course for them. They've shown zero concern for rights or other nation's citizens since day one.

The moderates might be growing in number but it's still the real wackos that call the shots. The problem is the moderates are mostly younger and not able to get into government or make their voices heard.

Give them another 5 years and they'll be another revolution in Iran, hopefully one not powered by deranged arseholes. Viva la revolution.

The good people of Iran have suffered long enough under the brutal Mullah regime. We should remmeber that this death of a Canadian journalist is something that Iranian families live with every day as friends and family members disappear or are beaten in squalid jails all the time.

Soon, I hope, a revolution will come that will more accurately reflect the will of the people. I have met many Persians (ethnic Iranians) and they are the most wonderful of people.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

If there's a silver lining in this cloud, I think we should recognize how profoundly lucky we are to have been born and raised in relatively civilized nations. Something to think about the next time we grouse about paying sales tax.

I draw the line at refraining from ripping on Bush or Congress. See, that is our right as citizens of this country. Yes, we live on the best quadrant on the planet when it comes to everything. However, we didn't get this way by being silent or complacent. As good as things are, they can always be better, and there is NOTHING wrong with voicing an opinion on that.

No one says that Bush or Congress should escape critism. Then again the people that do would do well to have a little (or a lot) perspective on the situation. Before people scream police state or grouse the fundies, they'd do well to remember that that is a fundy police state, the US doesn't come close.

Actually, they are Nashvill Liberals. If you are going to insult someone, at least do it with a modicum of intelligence.

As for comparisons, you are right, we are nowhere near the fundamentalist state that most (if not all) Arab countries are. What irks me to no end is that people make those kind of comparisons as a way of telling me to just shut my mouth and be grateful.

Sorry, doesn't cut the mustard with me. Sure, most (if not all) of the Arab states are fundamental to a worse extent than we are, however, we were never INTENDED to be a fundamentalist state, or even a Christian state, so why should I be grateful that we aren't "that" fundamental, when we are more fundamental than we were intended to be?

Just because they have it worse than we do, doesn't mean we can't have it better than we already do.

Yeah, let's here it for Hollywood liberal bimbos.

I agree Sobbastchianno. A good analogy would be if you got in a car crash and because of a known design flaw inthe car your arm was ripped off. Now you tell your friends and say you're going to complain and sue the car company so what do they say? Don't worry did you see the news, Car design x is much worse than that, it brakes peoples backs in the same accident. Be glad you have one arm and two legs all of wich have full motor functions and forgot about it you whiner.
