Enterprise-B/Kirk Dies, Battle in the Mutara Nebula, Star Trek VI Overature, and the TMP+Klingon theme combo from ST5 own the SW themes.YT300000 wrote:IMO the Emperor's Throne Room ([urlhttp://www.benandgrover.com/ep6/music/ep6ost16.zip[/url]) is the best bit of SW music in existence, and the best piece I have ever heard. The same goes for The Imperial March, Duel of the Fates, The Force, Into the Trap and many many others.Alyeska wrote:Star Trek easy. On average Star Wars had far better music, but the best Trek music has it beat. Goldsmith, Horner, McCarthy, and Eidelman all did some fantastic scores and songs.
All of the above mentioned own any Star Trek music.

That was disapointing ..Should we show this Federation how to build a ship so we may have worthy foes? Typhonis 1

This pretty easily goes to Wars. I mean, out of all Trek music, I enjoyed WOK very much, but nothing sends a chill down your spine like the Imperial March, or the Emperor's theme. It really isn't even a fair fight, but then who said it had to be.
(Edit: I'm not a music major, but I have played music in my time and do own WOK, and all other Trek cds. You can tell simply from listening to them that the complexity of William's music is higher than the complexity of WOK. This is generally true thoughout the rest of Trek music. Maybe that's how you can calulate it...get someone who can calculate complexity)

My opinion: SW has some classics of film music, ST has some okay ones.

Compexity in music can be seen with a casual glance at the score, if you can read music, that is.CaptJodan wrote:This pretty easily goes to Wars. Complexity in and of itself does not equal superiority, however. How many mind-bogglingly complex guitar solos have you heard, without the world of academic music giving them the time of day? The Imperial March is in no way, shape, or form a complex piece, for example. It works due to it's cord structure and rythms.
Life is all the eternity you get, use it wisely.
It's true: I'm a trumpet player (pretty good I think, but no formal training other than high school band and jazz band), and I can play almost everything in SW(excluding some of the double and triple tonguing that occurs a few times, especially in the Imperial March (if you know what that means)...
SW music isn't that hard, but it sounds excellent.

Star Wars has the Imperial March, victory to Wars. Okay Star Trek has had some really good stuff over the years, but I find most of it to be quite forgettable and nothing like the Imperial March, Duel of the Fates, or the Emperor's theme (buggered if I know what the real name for that piece is) - those have stuck in my mind for years.

When a smash-mouth tackle knocks the teeth out of a running back or a linebacker cold-cocks a quarterback in college football, it isn't a Star Trek theme one hears from the band. One hears The Imperial March...Matt7 wrote:What has the best music, Star Wars, or Star Trek?

I loved the Battle of Hoth. TIE Fighter Attack was pretty good too.

I love that compilation of themes based on the planets mythilogical origins.
Mars the Bringer of War
Venus the Bringer of Peace
Mercury the Winged Messenger
Jupiter the Bringer of Jollity
Saturn the Bringer of Old Age
Uranus The Magician
Neptune the Mystic
Its too bad the Planet Pluto hadn't been discovered yet cause a theme about the lord of underwold would have been real cool.

Star Trek has some truly incredible music, but its the main theme for Star Wars that takes it for me.
