It looks like they're going to be carrying some STOVL fighters on some light carriers: Washington Times

About goddamn time. Still, they're pussyfooting.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!

Good for them, it's about time they started expanding their military a bit.

Is China getting a working carrier anytime soon? I vaguely remember hearing about them buying one from Russia but I haven't seen anything on it recently.
Don't hate; appreciate!

RIP Eddie.

Those those LHD's they built a few years back? The ones that can carry 2 LCAC's and a few chinooks?

No. The carrier faction lost to submarine faction.

Anything that can help us put the smack down on North Korea if they start causing shit is a good thing.

If? No. With their economy the way it is, the proper thing to say is when.

China bought the incomplete hull of the Varyag, the sister ship of the Admiral Kuznetsov. It can't be completed- the hull is too far gone. It's probably being used to further study carrier construction techniques.

On the submarine faction of the Chinese Navy winning- some victory, their next generation attack submarine will be roughly equivalent with a Victor III SSN. Pathetic.

Phhht, far too small. They need to at least be Invincible Class size, Clemenceau or Charles de Gaulle class would be better.

Most of South East Asia isn't going to like this, and the Japanese aren't helping by trying to pass them off as destroyers. Of course the rest of the world will be busy laughing when they end up costing more then a Nimitz.

It’s a bit harder to pass a 20,000 ton vessel off as a destroyer and it would raise questions about if their offensive weapons or not.

True, but this world needs more aircraft carriers in my opinion.

Ten odd years ago the Japanese wanted to buy the Oriskany as a "peace memorial" ship. At the time it was ready-reserve so it was in a somewhat serviciable condition, in fact it had recently had new catapults installed.

Well, we found out that about 100 naval engineers were just waiting to take a look at said catapults. So we said no.

Incidently, if you look at the Oriskany now, you might get tetnus.

What an insult to those fine ships that would be. Think up some poncy new names for these undersized bastard cousins of first generation Soviet STOVL carriers.

Well, the Japanese are a good and formidable ally, and have the technology and skill to be very helpful indeed. It's about time they brought that know-how to world affairs. Not that they can actually use these carriers in a foriegn war as their constitution forbids it.

I'm suprised no one has yet started popping out paranoid conspiracies about this being the start of another Empire of Japan, though.

A suitable pair of shitty carriers to take names from would be Junyo and Hiyo

I'd feel more comfortable about this if there wasn't still an extreme imperialist faction in Japan ...
