Nice v Mean

Post by Marc Xavier »

Simple question. Which is better? Being nice or being mean?

Folks already know my answer. 8) What's yours?

"Most Awesome Guy in the Universe" "proof that folks can become much better..."

I don't think that there is an all encompassing rule on this one, it depends on the circumstances.

I evaluate situations on a case by case basis to decide how to baheve. I'll be nice if it serves my interests to be nice and mean if it serves my interests to be mean.

I'm generally nice until someone earns being mean to.

Well, first i'm mean if im in a humourous mood, but then im nice straight afterward to make sure they know i was only joking.

I'm nice almost all the time and don't like being mean but sometimes there are people that deserve being mean to then...

I'm nice unless you give me a reason to be mean. And then I will be mean.

How much of an offense (minor slight, accidental comment, or out-right being a huge pain in the arse) deserves a mean response?

I would say that if someone is abusive or tries to act high-and-mighty, he should expect an abusive response. It's hard to see someone with his nose up in the air and not want to knock him down a few pegs.

Of course, that brings up another question: is it truly mean to tell an incredibly stupid person that he's stupid? Or is it just factual?

Harmless stupid? Or annoying and/or dangerous stupid? I just tend to leave the former type alone, the latter I'll tell them to their face.

Like most people, I consider myself nice until provoked. Interesting
I think, is that everybody thinks of themselvs as the nice guy. The
bad guy is always "somebody else"

I don't give people reasons to be in a bad mood with me in the beggining, so things usually remain nice and quiet. I can't really be a mean guy if I wanted to anyways...

"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

Nice. It's always funny seeing people's reactions to someone just waving hi for the hell of it, and the girls seem to like me a lot now...

Recurring incidents of any of the above. A single instance will not warrent my assholeness, but continuing offenses will.

Mean, but in a humorous, sarcastic sort of way.
Don't hate; appreciate!

Mind you, "nice" has many definitions.

It is more important to be genuinely nice than superficially nice. The world is full of people who wave hello, smile, never say a bad word, never use foul language, never directly insult anyone ... and then turn their backs on you when you need help.

Me, if somebody I know needs a helping hand, I'll go out to help him. That's how I find and keep friends in real life; by actions, not words. That's also how I judge others. I don't put much stock at all in a friendly outward mannerism, to be honest. When the chips are down, that's when you find out who's really nice and who's not.

What a lot of people my age, and even older fail to notice is a real friend is someone you can really depend on, and who is loyal. Not some "neat" kid who you can waste time with.

I don't stomach morons and assholes making me tolerate their crap or bothering the people I love. But I'll lend a hand to a guy or girl who needs a favor.
