Serious question
Now i know that black holes unless continusley fed enough matter/energy dissapper in a puff of gamma radiation and i know scientists are creating mini black holes, but what if, scientists calculate wrong and make a black hole that
get's enough mass/energy and keeps growing. Wouldn't it eventually suck in the earth? Wouldn't that be a very bad thing?

Unless a scientist can cram a mountain's worth of mass into an artificial singularity, I don't think we need to worry about it hanging around long enough to accumulate mass.

Re: Serious question
That'd have to be a massive error, far beyond the metric/English system mishap. Trust me, we're a long way off from destroying the Earth with an artificial black hole.darthdavid wrote:Now i know that black holes unless continusley fed enough matter/energy dissapper in a puff of gamma radiation and i know scientists are creating mini black holes, but what if, scientists calculate wrong and make a black hole that get's enough mass/energy and keeps growing. Scientists can create artificial black holes now? That's extremely cool. Probably microscopic I'd imagine, but rad nonetheless. How energetic is a gamma ray burster anyway? I've always wanted to know that.

Re: Serious question
This could not happen, the amount of matter to create a black hole that is sustainable for even a small amount of time is large. You need a large amount of matter to start with to create a black hole that could actually affect the surrounding matter significantly before it vaped. The amount of matter needed to create a black hole the size of a marble is roughly equal to the earth. If a person was simply transformed into a black hole all of the sudden, that hole would be smaller than an electron. The holes these scientists are creating are the byproduct of a collision between single ATOMS.darthdavid wrote:Now i know that black holes unless continusley fed enough matter/energy dissapper in a puff of gamma radiation and i know scientists are creating mini black holes, but what if, scientists calculate wrong and make a black hole that
