Why Are There Different Laws For Different Places?

Post by Dorsk 81 »

Why is it, that some places ban smoking in public, yet other places have legal drugs like pot?
And why is it in some places anal sex is ilegal and in others prostitution is legal?

It gets better:
I have read about California, where smoking in public buildings is
not allowed in parts of the state.
Yet also in california, pot is legal...for 'medical' purposes.
Why is this? I would say the laws are different in various places
becuase the people there worry about different things.
In some places, indoor smoking may not be a big deal, other
places, people may be more concerned about it, Hence different
laws for different areas.

FUD. Stupidity. History. Lots of things. The US, for instance, is a rather conservative nation, the most conservative of the first world nations. I don't think any firstworld nation has stricter rules like the US has.

But all the rules eliminate violent crime, and make our onwanted pregnancie rates and our std rates extremley low. Infact they even keep nutjobs who say nukulur instead of nuclear and think that the best policy is to spit and pee on time honored inter country relationships AND the bill of rights at the same time while preaching an abstinance only sex ed program because the well funded, vocal minority tells him too.

The US has strict rules on religious issues, such as enforcement of sexual repression. However, it has lax rules on public expression and the use of firearms (its rules regarding the use of lethal force in defense of your property even without a direct threat to your safety are extremely lax).

Many first-world nations prohibit certain types of speech (specifically hate speech), while the only kinds of speech restricted in America seem to be death threats and fraud.

However, Americans are the most sexually hung-up people in the first world. Nowhere else in the civilized world will you find people who are so fucked up about the subject of sex that they think oral sex is evil.

Have you bothered to compare the stats to another country such as, say, Canada, before concluding that American laws reduce violent crime, unwanted pregnancies, and STDs?

I suspect it's actually a majority, not a vocal minority. Every poll indicates broad public support for abstinence-only programs. See my previous post.

i meant moral issues, really. some howie, some asian countries yes, but i said firstworld, which means only japan, SK, and maybe china count. japan has somewhat looser ideas regarding morality, but pretty strict rules regarding things that could jeopardize your ablity to 'fulfill your duty to family, friends, and company' etc. i dont know about sk, and china.. eh.

Mabye i need to start putting [sarcastic][/sarcastic] When i'm being sarcastic. Anyhow, I was infact being sarcastic on the low pregnancy std rates thing. And while there are alot of christians it's a relativly small group (fundies) who have the most control. Most americans (some poles say 80 % but i'd wager no higher than 60% as those poles are probably almost as rigged and biased as fundie poles) actually want a better sex ed system. I geuss in future late night posting i'll have to double check to makesure the sarcasm and the serious stuff are clearly labled.

Oh and Taiwan, sorry forgot Taiwan. But SEAsia certainly isnt firstworld yet. Malaysia is close, but not there yet. Philipines, no, haha sorry. India, no, Russia, sorry. Mongolia and the rest of central asia? Hahahahaha. the middle easy is technically asia, so maybe one country there is first world, and thats likely kuwait, or abu dhabi.

Well, there is Singapore and Hong Kong (though that's part of China, which you barely consider 1st World).

It's still completely modern a city.

Different places have different laws because the people in those places (I'm thinking primarily of U.S. states here) have different ideas of what constitutes a threat to public welfare and what punishments are approppriate for what crimes. Also, sometimes conditions in different states are different enough to warrant different laws (speed limits are usually much higher in the west than in the northeast, fireworks are illegal in many states with wildfire problems in the summer months, etc.).

It might be to encourage people to travel more. If you can't go to a slot machine or get fireworks in one state, then you go to another state that's far away to do so. If you're 20 and can't get a drink in America, then take a plane ot Mexico where the drinking age is 18 as a legal alternative to fake IDs.

Seriously, they're probably based on the opinions of both the people living in the area, and the people running the area. And since it's usually different, you get different laws in different state/countries.

[Edit: In case you didn't know, the first paragrapsh was a joke. Just because it's not funny doesn't mean I wasn't kidding]
