The seniors among us will remember the word games threads we used to have. Can you even imagine how big they would now be had the mods not decided to delete the Ultimate Spamfest?

I am reminded of the Eclipse Thread, which grew to well over a thousand posts. On Usenet this is rare.

Holy shit, I'm beyond impressed. I never would have thought that a bunch of idiots could achieve something so immensely beautiful. Get on the phone with Israel, Iraq, and Korea; world peace has just been achieved! Now that this awesome feat has been accomplished, there's no reason for anyone to continue living, so I guess now we can all drive our corvettes off various bridges.

Or something along those lines.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Has anyone here ever frequented the Heavengames forums? Their Age of Kings OD forum (Off-Topic forum) had a thread that had over 40,000 posts, and finally the mods had to lock it and make the whole thing invisible because it started causing problems with the board when so many people were loading it for viewing all the time.

I just took a look, and it looks like they've deleted most of the old posts (not just that thread, but everything), the OD forum over there used to have well over a million posts alone, and the other subforums were also larger. Probably the whole of it was large enough to start causing some serious maintenance trouble, and they had a project to unify all the different user databases for all of the forums at HG (there are many, one each for every game they have a site for) to a single one.

20 posts per page multiplied by 4,870 pages gives us 97,400. Minus 17 (only three posts on the last page), it gives us 97,383 posts.

New accounts are still being manually approved as I recall.

Hmm...yes...that's right. So is direct-linking allowed now or is it still forbidden?
