Top Ten Lies Men Tell Women

I have two things to say, firstly I would not want to have to pay the author's Alimony and divorce lawyer bills, I mean he seems like the kind of womeniser who would make Al from Quantum Leap seem like a completley monogomus man.... sheesh.
I would also like to say that I am in awe of Zaia's greatness....

Clothes...there those funny things that keep you warm arnt they? I have the fashion sense of a caveman, hence make the worst shopping partner. When you have no style, telling your beloved what looks good and what doesnt can be very straining, as 90% there is no agreement.
On telling lies in a relationship, I would ask why would/should you have to? True, sometimes a little mistruth might lessen an argument, but isnt honesty crucial when two people are together?
Heres a question for you Zaia, when is it ok for a guy to lie to woman. Personally I dont think it is ever, but Id like your opinion

That doesn't work for me. I have a friend who would still take me along, even though she knows I have all the fashion sense of an inbred cross between a snake and a baboon (and that's being generous), especially when it comes to the "in" thing to wear.Ghost Rider wrote:Not because I get too bored or roll my eyes...but my tastes in clothing ranges from dreadful to grotesque. She just won't ask my opinion, just drag me along and have me hold her stuff.
Though it isn't that bad. Even though there's little chance of closet action (just friends, after all), she seemed to like the more revealing things. Or at least thin and white. So I did get to see some very pleasing images that made me wish ever so dearly I could go in that closet with her.
Wisely, I kept my mouth shut on that one, but did make some "joking" comments along those general lines.

Re: Top Ten Lies Men Tell Women
I say that all the time, and it's not a lie. Rebecca does not look fat.Nick Fielding wrote:Number 10: No, you don't look fat
I've told Rebecca the same thing I've told all of you. I think strip joints are briefly enjoyable but overrated. I've also told her every time I've gone to one.Number 9: I don't enjoy going to strip joints
This one is stupid. I always believe in hashing out a problem right away, without giving it time to fester.Number 8: We'll talk about it later
I never compare Rebecca to famous people. I don't see the point in doing so. I do sometimes remind her that famous people never look as good in real life as they do on TV with movie makeup and all the other tricks of the trade.Number 7: You remind me of Jennifer Lopez
Since I have lowbrow culinary tastes and actually enjoy a $3 hamburger, I've never has cause to dislike Rebecca's cooking. What the fuck kind of conversations does this idiot have with his girlfriends, if he's ever actually had any?Number 6: I love your cooking
Since we watch pornography together, it would be ridiculous of me to tell her that I never think about other women in a sexual way. I do tell her that she is the only woman I love, need, or want, which is true.Number 5: I don't think of other women
I use an electric razor.Number 4: You can use my razor to shave your legs
I've never lied to her about my distaste for "chick flicks". She, for her part, has never lied to me about her distaste for violent action movies.Number 3: I love Meg Ryan movies
Rebecca knows perfectly well what I think of my in-laws.Number 2: I love spending time with your mom
If Rebecca is emotionally hurt by something I've said or done, I really am sorry and I immediately try to undo the damage. Why would someone lie about that? Identifying problems if and when they occur, and rectifying them quickly and honestly is the technique I've used to keep my marriage going smoothly for 11 years now, and I see no reason to change my approach.Number 1: I'm sorry
Lists like this are made out of a somewhat homoerotic urge to show other guys what a he-man you are. It's really no different from the "girls are icky" stage, except that this guy hasn't grown out of it.

Hmmm... That's a tough one. I'm sure there are certain situations where it would be ok, but generally it's not a good idea. Like, I suppose if my boyfriend's friend told him something important--let's say my bf's friend tells my bf he's gay, but he hasn't come out yet. That would be a secret I would expect my bf to keep, since he promised his friend he wouldn't tell anyone.pellaeons_scion wrote:Heres a question for you Zaia, when is it ok for a guy to lie to woman. Yes, although I should say, there are different ways in which to deliver the truth. I think that a certain degree of sensitivity should be used with certain subjects, but both people should definitely be honest with each other at all times. Unless there's some extenuating circumstance as previously noted.pellaeons_scion wrote:So aside from personal secrets of people important to him you'd expect the truth in all things? Dont want to hjack the thread but you did ask so..
Ok, and this is just my experiences. I have been in several relationships in which I did my best to always be honest about feelings and emotions and events, thinking that perhaps if I was honest they would be too. Not so.
Seems that they used my honesty as an effective foil to other schemes they had plotted, or worse, twist what I had said into an argument which there was usually no escape except capitulation. So, in a way the mistruths were almost forced upon me to attempt to reach a 'compromise'. Compromise being "Tell me what I want to hear". Maybe you can read honesty for naivete there but still...from my experience its harder to stand by your principles, even if you believe them to be true, especially if your partner doesnt want the truth really.
Case in point: GF picks up a shirt ( cant remember which) and asks "What do you think of this" truth was I didnt like it very much, but she did, but I figured she did ask so I told her I didnt like it. It was a very silent drive home, with many jabs about how nice that shirt would have looked...Its a small example, but there are many similar. We wont go into theft, cheating, and generally being not very nice
Just an aside I know not all females are like this, but Im batting 0 in the honest female department. Ill still keep trying, but I am a tad more cynical. Spose you learn from your experiences...but damn its painful. I still think honesty and truth is integral to communication in a relationship, I gues I just havent worked out when to speak my mind and when to shut my mouth

The trick, of course, is in the delivery. For example:Zaia wrote:I could be mistaken, but it sounded to me like it was the other person in the relationship who was having issues with truth and honesty...Darth Wong wrote:Care to elaborate? GIRL: If you see a girl with a nice body walking down the street in revealing clothes, will you look at her?
GUY: If you see a well-muscled guy walking down the street in nothing but a Speedo, will you look at him?
GIRL: Yes.
GUY: Yes.
Of course, if she says "No", then you can talk to her about her dishonesty. Of course, some people are just habitually dishonest and cannot operate in an open environment, but that's a reflection on the person, not the policy of being honest.

Yeah Zaia, your probably right. I just find more than my share of these type. Ah well, Ill just keep on smiling and searching:D No point being glumI could be mistaken, but it sounded to me like it was the other person in the relationship who was having issues with truth and honesty...
As for you missing australia, Im sure you'd be a welcome addition here:)
DW A great idea, but I have actually tried that one. And at least 2 said 'no' and said that "when they were with me I was all they looked at" The bullshit meter rang off the scale, but I just sighed and accepted it, meant one less argument..The trick, of course, is in the delivery. For example:

Actually, it means that you're dealing with a dishonest person and that's a bad sign for the future, so you might as well cut your losses and leave.pellaeons_scion wrote:DW A great idea, but I have actually tried that one. "Do I look fat in this" isn't nearly as bad as "do you like small breasts"
Reason:
"Yes"
"You think my breasts are small!!!"
"No"
"You don't like my breasts!"

I quoted something from somewhere (I can't remember where) when I was asked the breast question;
For men, the question of breasts is the same as the question; do we prefer Coke or Pepsi? The answer is that while we might express a preference, at the end of the day we'll take whatever is on tap.
Try that next time.

Chicks don't fall for that, not since Seinfeld's; 'I have legs, why would I be a leg man?'. I have had that thrown at me once or twice.Darth Wong wrote:Better response: "Actually, I'm a leg and ass-man, and yours are beautiful".
It's not that we are necessarily lying when men say we are a legs and ass man (Tea Leoni anyone?), it's just they usually believe that all men are breasts men and that some of those branch out to 'legs and ass'.
It's been a while since I did probability, that's a union or something right (A U B)? Anyway, trust me the 'we'll take whatever is on tap' is honest and straight to the point, the worst you'll get is a scoff and a generalisation about men being pigs.

if you can respond to a yes or no question without using yes or no, then do so.
Scenario 1:
"Do you like big dicks?"
"Yes."
"So you dont like my dick cause its not big, do you?"
"I never said that!"
"So then 6 inches is big?"
"Well, no.."
Scenario 2:
"Do you like big dicks?"
"I like any sized dick I can get my lips around."
"Good then put your lips around mine"
See? Scenario 2 leaves everyone happy.

Gee I thought the shallow male lies were all contained in the R&B classic "Son of a Preacher Man"
I'm all yours.
Everything is alright
I'll always love you
Everything will be just fine. (I won't get you preggers)
etc.

The "leg and ass-man" thing is the truth in my case. When Rebecca was breast-feeding our kids, her boobs grew considerably, but it was of no great importance to me.It's not that we are necessarily lying when men say we are a legs and ass man (Tea Leoni anyone?), it's just they usually believe that all men are breasts men and that some of those branch out to 'legs and ass'.

Looking at other people? Everyone does it. That hasn't ever really bothered me. If a relationship can't handle someone checking someone else out briefly, there's bigger problems going on, ya know?
Shopping? heh why pass up a chance to check out your girlfriend? It's one of the few times she won't mind you staring at her Too, as long as they return the favor every so often, when you want to go look for CD's or whatever, it's all good in the long run. (and if you're a leg man, go shopping for shoes with your gf in the summer!)
Lying? Stupid. Minor league bull-shitting, that's life, but outright lying? Wrong and stupid. Same for saying you're sorry if you don't mean it. But I agree, if you've done something hurtful, why wouldn't you be sorry for real?
